MUSIC CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Our curriculum aims to offer ‘Excellence for all, through Jesus’ love'.
With Jesus at the heart, we intend to provide:
- Excellence for all children
- Excellence for all staff
- Excellent spaces and opportunities to learn
‘A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.’
National Curriculum: Music
Our music curriculum at St Modwen’s combines discrete music teaching with the musical experiences and opportunities that make up the fabric of life in a primary school. As children move through our music curriculum, they will develop an understanding of musical vocabulary including pitch, rhythm, melody and instrumental names. Our children will be given chances to apply their musical understanding in cross-curricular settings where appropriate and meaningful links can be made. They will partake in instrumental lessons for a year of their time in primary and will also take part in regular collective worship, concerts and performances and be given the opportunity to see live examples of the performing arts.
