Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of a busy term at St Modwen's, I wish to thank you all for the support you have given to your children and our school community, and I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year.  You and your families will be in my prayers on Christmas Day.

Mrs Sherratt

What we have been learning this week...

Nursery:

On behalf of myself and Mrs O'Brien, we would just like to say a big, big thank you to all the parents and carers for attending the Christmas Craft workshop.  You all seemed to be having such a wonderful time with your children decorating biscuits, making cards and hats, Christmas tree pine cones, food for the reindeer and Santa faces.  It was a joy to see, and everybody seemed to go home with lots of goodies!

Wishing you all a Happy and Holy Christmas, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the New Year.

Reception:

This week, we have been having lots of Christmas fun!  In Maths, we have been learning all about 4-sided shapes and different shapes in the environment.  We went on a shape hunt and spotted them all around the playground.  Reception have had a super first term!  Have a lovely, restful break!

Year 1:

We had lots of fun in our last week before our Christmas break.  We have continued to learn about the importance of Advent and how we can prepare during this time.  In Maths, we have had a week of solving different problems and have used pictures and objects to prove we are right!  We have also been completing lots of fun Christmas crafts.

Year 2:

This week, in Year 2, we have really enjoyed a big focus on Science.  We have explored lots of different materials and considered what would make the best material for Teddy's raincoat.  In English, we have used our Year 2 SPaG knowledge to write lots of Christmas-themed sentences.  We definitely enjoyed writing a story about a mischievous elf.  In Maths, we have continued learning all about shapes, looking at 2D and 3D thinking carefully about the properties of both of these.  We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Love Mrs Hatton and Mrs Palmer.

Year 3:

At the start of this week, we completed our Hot Task for English - an information text about the Arctic.  We made sure to use organisational devices such as headings and subheadings.  In Maths, we have been completing reasoning questions for the 2, 4 and 8 times tables and multiplying by 10.  We were very impressed by the behaviour and enthusiasm of the children as we walked to and from the hospital on Wednesday to sing carols.  We hope you all have a fabulous Christmas with your family and friends, and we look forward to seeing the children in January.

Year 4:

We have had a lovely festive week in Year 4.  We have been finishing our unit on Advent in RE, by looking at scripture pronouncing the coming of the Messiah.  In Reading, we finished the Firework-Makers Daughter, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.  We have also been completing some Christmas-themed maths, sang some songs and have watched a Christmas movie.

Year 5:

This week in Year five has been very busy.  We finished our RE unit on Advent.  All of the children are definitely prepared.  We had our carol concert which all the children excelled in, some amazing dance moves.  Later this week, we enjoyed some Christmas crafts and watched Nativity!  It has been a long term and the children have earnt a rest!  We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Year 6:

This week in Year 6 we have been preparing for our Carol Concert.  In English, we wrote our Windrush Hot Tasks.  In Maths, we finished learning about Imperial Measures. In RE, we learnt about how the Old and New Testaments link together. In Reading, we finished learning about 'The Raven'.  In History, we learnt about the founding of the NHS and Anuerin Bevan.
