Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

As we come to the end of another academic year, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all our parents and carers for your continued support.  Your involvement in school life - especially your support of events throughout the year-has helped to make this a truly memorable and successful year.  I would also like to express my sincere gratitude for the many kind words, cards, and gifts sent to me and to the staff - your thoughtfulness and generosity are very much appreciated.  A special thank you goes to our dedicated governors, whose ongoing support and guidance continue to strengthen our school community.

This year has brought with it some significant and proud moments, most notably a successful Ofsted inspection and an 'Outstanding' judgement in all areas of our Catholic Schools Inspection - achievements that reflect the dedication, hard work, and spirit of our entire school community.

We say a fond farewell today to our wonderful Year 6 pupils as they move on to the next stage of their journey in Year 7 - we wish them every success and happiness.  We also bid goodbye to several valued members of staff: Mrs Palmer, Miss Hyden, Miss Greaves, and Mrs Plows.  We thank them all for their contributions and wish them the very best for the future.  Finally, we send our warmest congratulations to Miss Smith, who was married today - our very best wishes to Mr and Mrs Taylor as they begin their new life together.

Have a wonderful, safe, and blessed summer.  I look forward to welcoming you all back on Tuesday, September 2nd.

Mrs A Sherratt

St Modwen's Feast Day Garden Party

We are delighted to announce that we raised £792.87 during the Garden Party on 11th July!  Thank you to everyone for your support with our fundraising for school.

A reminder to all parents that the national expectation is for children to be able to swim 25 metres unaided by the end of Year 6.  Swimming is a vital life skill, and the earlier children gain confidence in the water, the better.  We encourage families to make the most of the summer break by taking their children swimming regularly - it’s a fun and valuable way to build this important ability.

What we have been learning this week ...

Nursery:

In our final week of Nursery we continued with our topic of Special Celebrations. We enjoyed some lovely activities, including making crowns, cards, decorating cakes and blowing up balloons.

Finally, we would like to say a very big, heartfelt thank you to all of you for your continued support through this academic year.  The children have been truly amazing and are a blessing to each and every one of you!  Wishing you all a happy and safe holiday.

Best wishes

The Nursery Team x

Reception

This week, we have been enjoying spending our time playing games with our friends and creating lots of memories.  We watched the Year 6 leavers' assembly this week, which was a lot of fun.  We saw some of their pictures from when they were in Reception.  We have learnt so much this year and Miss Butt and Miss Mallinson are extremely proud of us!

Have a great summer and good luck in Year 1.

Year 1:

What an amazing year it has been for our Year 1 classes!  We are so proud of all the hard work, brilliant learning, and fantastic progress every child has made. From becoming confident readers and writers to tackling tricky maths challenges with enthusiasm, the children have shown determination, kindness, and a love for learning every single day.  It has been a joy to see their smiling faces and growing confidence throughout the year.

We wish all our wonderful Year 1 children and their families a fun, safe, and sunny summer holiday!

Year 2:

What an amazing week we have had in Year 2!  It has been a great week to look back at the year and see what the children have accomplished!  It has been an absolute pleasure to teach your children this year and we hope you have an amazing summer together.

All the best, Mrs Hatton and Mrs Palmer

Year 3:

This week, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes in Maths.  In Reading, we have completed our book and completed a book review.  In English, we wrote a letter to our past self giving us sensible advice.  In Science, we conducted an investigation into magnets and what causes them to attract or repel each other. In RE, we have been  looking at the Holy Trinity.  Wow!  What a wonderful year we have had!  This year has been jam-packed with learning, fun and success.  We would like to thank all the pupils for their hard work and dedication this year and we wish you all a wonderful, restful holiday. Please continue to read and practise your timetables and learn your Maths KIRF statements (available on our website) over the holidays.

We look forward to welcoming you back in September.

Year 4:

We had a fantastic time at Lunt Roman Fort, where we spent the day with two Roman soldiers who taught us about life in the Roman army.  We used replica shields and swords to take part in a battle which was brilliant fun.  In Science, we learnt about the digestive system.  During RE, we concluded our final unit.  We learnt how to translate shapes in Maths and, during Spanish, we learnt about ice cream flavours.

Thank you for all your support this academic year.  We wish you all a fantastic summer.

Year 5:

In the last week of year five, the children worked hard to complete our Science and History topics.  We enjoyed watching the year 6 play and leavers' assembly  too!  Hopefully you all have a lovely rest and come back ready and refreshed to be the role models of the school!

Have a great summer!

Year 6:

Wow - well what a week it's been!  The Year 6 children have spent the week reflecting on their time at St Modwen's.   With the Leavers' assembly and mass; as well as the parents' lunch and Year 6 lunch, we've had real moments to look back on the times we have spent with each other as a whole school community.  We wish all the children good luck in the future as they begin the next chapter of their lives.  We thank all the parents for your support through the years and wish everyone a restful and safe summer holiday.

Finally to all the Year 6, remember the 'St Modwen Way' and always be the best version of yourselves.  God Bless - Miss Goodman and Mr Mawhinney.
