Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

Over the past two weeks, the children have been immersed in a whole-school project exploring Catholic Social Teaching under the theme “Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus.  ” Today, we were treated to a wonderful showcase of their learning and creativity—please do take a moment to ask your child about what they shared.  It has also been a joy to see our new Reception and Nursery pupils settle so beautifully into school life; they have quickly become part of our community, and we are very proud of the confident start they have made.  Next Wednesday, we will be coming together as a school community for our pilgrimage to the St Modwen’s statue on the Washlands, a special opportunity for prayer and reflection.  Looking ahead, swimming lessons also begin next week for Years 2–6, and we are excited to see the children grow in confidence and enjoyment during these sessions.  In addition, our curriculum evenings will be taking place over the next fortnight with your child’s new teacher.  These evenings are a great opportunity to hear about the year ahead, routines, and plans, and we warmly encourage you to attend.

Wishing you all a restful and happy weekend.

Mrs A Sherratt

Head Teacher

What we have been learning this week ...

Nursery:

This week has seen the children come into nursery with a little more confidence and begin to settle more into the routine of the day.  We have started to learn to listen and respond to our name for register time and join in with our morning prayer.  We are also having a go at some 'Wake up Shake up' action songs to get us ready for the day ahead.

Reception

This week, Reception have been listening to the parable of The Lost Sheep.  We learnt that we are all part of God's family and, just like the shepherd, he loves us very much.  We had a go at writing our names on hearts to show we are all one! We have continued getting to know each other and have enjoyed working as a team to build things.  Next week, we will continue to learn about the different stories in the bible as well as exploring God's creation.

Year 1:

This week in Year 1, the children have been busy exploring their creativity and building new skills across the curriculum.  In art, they experimented with different painting techniques using a variety of brush sizes, learning how each brush creates different effects and textures.  In RE, the class learnt about the creation story and had great fun bringing it to life by acting out each part, helping them to understand the story in a hands-on and engaging way.  In Maths, the children have been working on representing numbers using ten frames, developing their understanding of number composition and improving their counting skills.  It’s been a week full of creativity, imagination, and learning!

Year 2:

This week in Year 2 we have been continuing our learning on Explorers.  We have focussed on the different oceans in the world and labelled these on a map.  We have written some super sentences around our text Poles Apart and continued our Place Value understanding in Maths.

Year 3:

Year 3 have had a fantastic week getting stuck into their learning!  We have looked at the book 'Hike' for our English work and the children have created their own story maps.  In Maths, we continue to explore how we can partition numbers using hundreds, tens and ones, and we have started our topic of India in Geography.  In RE, the children have been showing off their fantastic writing skills by writing a diary entry as a disciple and have been thinking about how it would feel to be asked to be a follower of Jesus.

Year 3/4:

This week in Tear 3/4 we have been continuing our work on place value in Maths as well as starting to really focus on learning our timetables.  In English, we have been using simple, compound and complex sentences in our writing.  In reading, we are thoroughly enjoying our book 'The Butterfly Lion'.  In PE, we have been working on our hockey and handball skills.  In RE, we have been continuing our work on Creation and, in particular, looking at the story of Abram.

Year 5:

This week, we have continued reading our English text (Holes) and have started to learn how to use relative clauses in our writing.  In Maths, we have been partitioning numbers up to 1,000,000 and working out 1, 10, 100 and 1000 more or fewer than numbers.  In Reading, we have practised our reading comprehension skills using our class text Kensuke’s Kingdom.  In RE, we have learnt about being made in the image and likeness of God and what this means. In Science, we have tested materials to see if they were magnetic and either opaque, translucent and transparent.  In Geography, we have learnt about Mexico and explored some key features, including surrounding countries and oceans.

Year 6:

This week has been our first assessment week.  The children have been so mature and determined to do well in their tests, and we have been very pleased with their attitude, and we're only in the second week!

As well as tests, we have been carrying on with our descriptive writing and using 'show not tell' to create interest.  We have been doing benchball and football in PE.  In RE, we have continued to delve deeper into our understanding of the bible.
