10/10/2025 School Newsletter

                                          Friday 10th October, 2025

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

We’ve had another productive week here at school, and it’s hard to believe how quickly this half-term is flying by!  Our thoughts are already turning to the festive season, and plans are well underway for our Christmas events.  Dates for nativities, carol singing, and other celebrations are now available on the school calendar - please do take a look and note these in your diaries.

A gentle reminder about parking: we’re very fortunate to have a large car park for parents’ use, but it’s important that everyone follows the timings to ensure the system runs smoothly.  Nursery parents may access the site from 2:50pm, KS1 parents from 3:10pm, and KS2 parents from 3:20pm.  Where possible, we would always encourage families to walk to school - it’s great for both health and the environment!

Finally, we’ve added a new feature to our school website with information on mental health services and support for children.  Please do have a look to see if this might be useful to your family.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.

Mrs A Sherratt

Head Teacher

What we have been learning this week ...

Nursery:

Our nursery rhymes this week have been ‘Wheels on the Bus’ and 'Five Little Ducks' and our activities in nursery have been linked to these.  In our RE and RSE topic we continue to reinforce the Story of Creation and recall all the things God has made.

As we continue to learn about each other, the children have been discussing their favourite toys, and we have completed a pictogram to see which is the most popular.  We have also talked about our feelings, focusing on the emotions of 'happy' and 'sad' and shared books to support this.  The children have been fantastic in Maths, matching lots of different resources, including matching by colour, shape and size.

Reception

Reception have had a wonderful week!  We have continued learning new sounds in Phonics and have started to read and write simple words.  We loved our story in Drawing Club this week – In Every House on Every Street.  We drew lots of different houses using different shapes and even had a go at making some models of houses using junk modelling.  We have created and continued repeating patterns in Maths, using our vocabulary to explain what comes next. We are looking forward to next week when we are learning all about Autumn! Have a lovely weekend.

Year 1:

In Year 1, we have innovated our story using the ideas from the King's Pants.  In our story, the King lost his crown!  In Maths, we have tried really hard to write addition sentences to match our part-whole models.  We have continued our learning in families and celebrations, thinking carefully about Jesus' first miracle when he turned water into wine at the wedding in Cana.

Year 2:

This week we have been getting to grips with adding ones together but making 10 first.  The children have spent lots of time considering their number bonds to 10 and how they can use this knowledge when adding other numbers together.  In English, we’ve been writing in both past and present tense, thinking about the characters in our story Lost and Found.  RE has seen us exploring Mary’s relationship with Jesus and how she loved and cared for him during all parts of his life.

Year 3:

Year 3 have had a great week preparing for and beginning to write their hot task in English.  The children have been researching and planning an information text all about how to look after our environment!  In Maths, the children have been learning how to add ones across a ten and tens across a hundred – they have been fantastic!   In Geography, we learnt all about the River Ganges and in RE we explored the Gospel and talked about what it meant to us.  The children also thoroughly enjoyed a live online worship session with Dan and Emily to end our week and sang beautifully.

Year 3/4:

This week in Year 4 we have come to the end of our first book in reading, 'The Butterfly Lion'.  It was an emotional roller-coaster, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. In English, we have been looking at non-chronological texts and our hot task will be to create a fact file about earthquakes to tie in with our Geography topic.  In Maths, we have been using our journalling skills for rounding and column addition and subtraction to help us with our work.  In RE, we have been working on the story of Jesus being presented in the Temple and discussing why he is a shining light.

Year 5:

This week in Year 5, we have started our new topic in Maths, which is looking at multiplication and division.  In English, we are looking at our non-fiction text (Holes) and learning how to use semicolons.  In Reading, we have continued with Kensuke's Kingdom.  In Science, we explore the use of which materials would be suitable for everyday objects.  In Geography, we look at how the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn affect the climate in Mexico.  In RE, we explore the gospel accounts of Jesus' Baptism.  We have also been working really hard on attendance and next week is assessment week.  Please make sure your child attends school as these assessments help guide pupils towards improvement.

Year 6:

Year 6 have been studying a non-fiction text in English called – Wild Animals of the North.  In Maths, we have been persevering with long division.  In Reading we have been continuing our journey in Brightstorm.  In RE, we have looked at different representations of Jesus by looking at different types of artwork.  In PE, we played handball and football.  In Geography, we looked at why tourists don't visit Petra as much as they used to.  In Science, we have looked at what microorganisms are.
