Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

What a fantastic end to our half term!  This morning’s assembly was a real highlight - it was wonderful to come together to celebrate excellence in reading and homework.  The children have worked so hard, and it was lovely to recognise their efforts and achievements.  A big thank you to all of you for the support you give your children with their learning at home.  We’ve been blown away by the quality of the homework and projects brought into school - such creativity and care have gone into them all.

It’s also been our DT Project Week, and the classrooms have been buzzing with excitement as the children have been designing, building and testing out their ideas.  Do ask your child to tell you about what they made - they’ve achieved so much this week!

Today has been a real treat with our Forest School day.  The children have spent the day outdoors exploring, learning and working together, and it’s been a joy to watch. The teamwork, curiosity and enthusiasm on show have been amazing. Take a look at our social media pages to see some of the brilliant things that have been happening across the school today.

This week has also been Attendance Week, and I’m so proud of all our pupils who have been in school every day - our Attendance Heroes!  They’ll be bringing home their certificates today.  Thank you for supporting us in making excellent attendance such a priority.

As we finish for the break, we say a very fond goodbye to Mrs Jones in the office. Many of you will know her as the smiling, welcoming face of our school office.  She has been such an important part of our team, and while we’ll miss her greatly, we’re so pleased for her as she takes on her new promoted role at another Staffordshire school.

Thank you all for your continued support - it really does mean so much to us. I hope you have a wonderful, restful half term, and I look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday 3rd November.

What we have been learning this week ...

Nursery:

This week's nursery rhyme has been 'Row, Row, Row your Boat'.  The children have enjoyed acting out the rhyme with a friend, rowing down the stream.  We have continued with our topic of SORTING in Maths, making rules for different groups of objects of toys and natural materials and the children have really enjoyed doing this!  Wishing you all a lovely half term.

Reception

This week has been Diwali week in Reception and we have had lots of fun!  We have learnt about Rama and Sita which helped us understand the true meaning of Diwali.  We've been looking at Rangoli patterns and had a go at creating our own using different coloured rice.  We also explored a Diwali dance and had a go at it too!!

Year 1:

Year 1 have had an exciting week of learning.  In Maths, the children have been working incredibly hard to recall their number bonds to 10, using different objects and numbers to see how they make a total of 10.  For English, we delved into the wonderful story of 'Winnie the Pooh Meets the King'.  The class wrote their own sentences about the royal adventure, making a great effort to remember to use capital letters and full stops.  We also had a fantastic forest school session on Friday, spending the day outside to explore and learn.

Year 2:

Year 2 have been working very hard this week.  We are super impressed at the resilience of the children during assessment week.  In DT we have been looking at sliders and moving parts and we have created a moving Artic picture.  Roles have been given out this week for our Nativity - can you please start practising if your child has a speaking part.

We ended the week with a great Forest School day!  Have a wonderful half term!

Year 3:

We have had a brilliant week in Year 3!  We have been subtracting 10s across a 100 in Maths using practical equipment, number lines and written methods.  We finally finished our book in our reading lessons.  We loved reading about Plop's adventures and watching him grow in confidence as the book progressed.  We then designed our own front covers for the book.  It has been DT project week and we had great fun designing and making our own space helmets.  We finished our week with Forest School Day!  It was so much fun and we especially loved the treasure hunt!  We hope you all have a wonderful half term!

Year 3/4:

This week we had a brilliant workshop with Seven Trent Water.  They brought in their mobile lab for us to test water and had a virtual reality tour of the sewers. We also played some really fun games.  We have been completing assessments in English and Maths in the mornings and, in the afternoons, we have been working on designing and building our earthquake-proof buildings.

Year 5:

In English, we have been writing our hot task about the formation of fossils.  In Maths, we have been learning about prime numbers, squared numbers and cubed numbers.  In Reading, we have been focusing on summarising what we have read.  In RE, we have been learning about the Sacrament of Baptism.  In DT, we have designed, made and evaluated bridges using different materials.  To finish off our week, we have enjoyed being outside for forest school day.  We have made artwork, completed a treasure hunt and done fire lighting.

Year 6:

Year 6 have finished the term with another busy week.  In English we have finished our Hot Task about Animals.  In Reading, we have been continuing with 'Brightstorm' and designing our own skyship.  In Maths, we have been adding and subtracting  fractions.  In the afternoons we have designed and made our playground equipment.  In RE, we have considered which qualities are needed in order to become a disciple of Jesus.
