What we have been learning this week ...
Nursery:
We started our week by remembering all the soldiers who fight to protect our country. We have enjoyed lots of activities across all areas of learning to support Remembrance Day. We were very proud of how well the children behaved when taking part in the 2-minute silence at 11 o'clock.
In Maths, we have been learning all about the number 2. We are beginning to subitise a group of two objects and represent 2 using our fingers. We also made 'listening ears' to help us listen and identify the different everyday sounds we hear in the indoor and outdoor environment.
Reception
In Reception, we have been learning all about The Magic Crayon in Drawing Club. We explored the character and setting, which was truly magical. We all had a go at drawing the character from the book and used our Phonics skills to help us. In Maths, we have been busy subitising 5 and 5. It was a bit tricky to begin with, but we worked hard to finally recall the numbers. This week, we also took part in a 2-minute silence with the rest of the school. It was really important to think about the fallen soldiers.
Both Miss Mallinson and Miss Butt are incredibly proud of the Phonics progress we have seen so far. Please continue to watch the Phonics videos sent out on Parent Mail. Have a great weekend!
Year 1:
Year 1 have been having a fantastic time exploring the story Do Not Enter the Monster Zoo! We have created a colourful story map to help us remember the events and have let our imaginations run wild by designing our own mischievous monsters, thinking about all the ways they might cause chaos in the zoo. In Maths, we have been working hard on our subtraction skills, using practical activities and problem-solving to deepen our understanding. In RE, we are continuing to learn about the importance of prayer and how it can be a special way to reflect and connect and, in History, we have been learning all about Guy Fawkes. It’s been a busy and exciting week of learning!
Year 2:
Year 2 have worked super hard this week! In English, we have continued to look at the Great Fire of London. We have focussed on using expanded noun phrases and adverbs to help us to describe. In Maths, we have been adding and subtracting 10s. We have also learnt how to use the column method to add two 2 digit numbers - both with and without crossing a 10. In RE, we have been thinking about different celebrations, including weddings, and thinking carefully about how Joseph showed his love and care for Mary. On Wednesday, we had a very exciting visit from Staffordshire firefighters, where we learnt about road safety and got to explore the fire engine. We have also been working hard rehearsing the Nativity. If your child has a speaking part, please continue to help them to practice this at home. We have been super impressed with the children so far!
Year 3:
Year 3 have had a great week and have worked incredibly hard! We have almost finished learning about column addition and subtraction in Maths and the children have been brilliant at presenting and solving their calculations. In English, we have finished planning our own stories about a magical object ready to write them up next week. In Reading, we are continuing with our new text. Flat Stanley. and in Science we have compared the different diets that people might have. The children were also really enthusiastic when learning about the differences between the Stone Age and now.

In RE, we have been learning about Moses and also about Jesus' parables and how they teach us about forgiveness.
We are holding elections for school parliament next Wednesday. If your child wishes to enter the vote, they will need to prepare a speech or a presentation which they will present to their classmates on Wednesday afternoon. They will be elected in by their peers.
Year 5:
This week has been full of exciting learning across the curriculum. In Maths, we have been developing our arithmetic skills, showing great determination as we build our number fluency. We also enjoyed a special visit to SS Peter and Paul in Lichfield, where we joined Dan and Emily to “fan the flames of hope” and reflect on what hope means in our own lives. In English, we have been using inverted commas to show speech, linking our work to the class text 'Goodnight Mr Tom'. In RE, we explored the Parable of the Good Samaritan and thought about how we can show kindness, compassion, and generosity by being Good Samaritans in our everyday lives. Well done to all the children for their excellent attitude and effort throughout the week!
