Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

We have come to a warm and sunny end to the week, which felt particularly fitting as today, 1st May, we celebrated our annual Procession for Mary. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to parents for their wonderful support in helping the children dress in blue and for sending in flowers and plants, offered so prayerfully alongside the children’s intentions. The procession concluded in our beautiful school prayer garden, where the children conducted themselves with great reverence and sang beautifully.

This week I have also received some excellent feedback from Packington Farm following our Reception class visits this week, with staff commenting on the children’s exemplary behaviour, engagement, and conduct. A reminder that our PTA is currently seeking volunteers for the Summer Fair on Friday 4th July; even offering an hour of your time will help ensure this much-loved event can go ahead. Please can I also remind parents that children should not bring Pokémon cards into school, as this can cause difficulties that take staff away from valuable teaching time.

A reminder for next week; Tuesday 5th May we are joined by Academy Photography who will be taking class photos of the children, please ensure your child is in full uniform (no trainers please), so that they look super smart in their class photo.

As we continue to celebrate Eastertide, I wish you all a restful and enjoyable bank holiday weekend, and we look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Tuesday 5th May.

What we have been learning about this week .....

Nursery:

This week the children have continued their learning of Bears by finishing the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. The children were so excited to find out what was in the cave. They have also sequenced the story. Sequencing helps the children to order the story in which events take place using pictures, focusing on the beginning, middle and end.

In maths we have been learning about the 2D shapes circle, triangle and rectangle and exploring these shapes in our provision. We will be building on this next week when we learn all about 3D shapes.

Reception:

This week we have been continuing our topic around the Farm. We went to Packington farm and had an amazing time learning all about the different animals. We learnt about free range eggs, harvest combiners, tractors and where milk comes from. The adults were really impressed with our behaviour and manners! In Maths, we have been exploring adding and had a go at writing a number sentence for this.

Year 1:

This week Year 1 have been writing our own stories based on the book 'Jehvon Goes to Jamaica' We have been very impressed with their creative ideas! In maths the children have been learning to share amounts into equal groups, and in Geography we have been learning about the weather in Jamaica and comparing it to England! We have really enjoyed taking part in the Mary procession this afternoon.

Year 2:

This week in Year 2, we have finished our learning about time and have been practising telling the time to 5-minute intervals. We have found this a little tricky, so please help us to practise at home.

In English, we have been thinking about our own settings for our Stanley stories and have carefully planned how we are going to create our own versions, following the same style.

Finally, we ended our week by discovering the seeds inside different foods and enjoyed laying our flowers for Mary.

Year 3:

This week in Year 3, we have been very busy! We have finished our hot tasks of writing a tale of fear story. The children have all tried really hard with their writing, we have been very impressed. In maths, we have been looking at measuring in kilograms and grams and then exploring equivalent masses. We have been thinking about how to prepare for our First Holy Communion in a few weeks and thought about how special the eucharist is. In geography, we learnt about how canals are currently used and what we would see if we were to visit a canal.

Next week, we will be starting our next unit in English of newspaper reports. In maths, we will be looking at measuring and comparing litres and millilitres.

Year 4:

This week in Year 4, we have been busy working on our times tables check and solving money problems as groups in maths. In reading, we have started our new book 'The Girl Who Stole the Elephant' and have been predicting what is going to happen. In English, we are starting our hot task based on two children getting lost in Venice. In science, we have been comparing teeth in different types of animals and their functions. In RE, we have been thinking about the effect of the resurrection on different people, particularly Mary, the disciples and chief priests.

Year 5:

This week has been full of exciting learning in Year 5 . In English, we tackled hot tasks and used figurative language to journey to Antarctica. In Maths, we improved our coordinate plotting and in Reading we used dictionaries to build our vocabulary. In RE, we explored the Easter Vigil while in PE we developed our tennis skills. In Science, we learned how levers, pulleys and gears make work easier.

Year 6:

This week in Year 6 we have been writing our Disaster Journey Hot Tasks. In Reading we have been practising answering a range of question styles for our SATs preparation. In Maths, we have been multiplying, dividing and rounding decimals. In RE, we have looked at the meaning of 'Resurrection'. We have spent the afternoons practising and revising for our upcoming tests.

Please be aware that some children have been playing age-inappropriate games; we kindly ask parents to review the recommended age ratings.

Helmet Safety:

With many children travelling to and from school on scooters and bikes, please ensure they wear a properly fitted helmet at all times. Wearing a helmet significantly reduces the risk of head injuries and helps keep everyone safe during busy drop-off and pick-up times.
