15/05/2026 School Newsletter

                                                     Friday 15th May 2026

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

It has been a very successful week in school as we congratulate our Year 6 pupils on completing their SATs. They approached each day with remarkable determination, demonstrating resilience, focus and a positive attitude throughout - qualities that will serve them well as they move on to the next stage of their journey.

Looking ahead, there is plenty to look forward to next week, including exciting taster zorbing sessions for our Key Stage 2 pupils—please remember to come to school in PE kits on Wednesday.  Next Friday, our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils will be visiting Derby as part of their Religious Education, where they will have the valuable opportunity to visit a Sikh Gurdwara and a Hindu temple, further enriching their understanding of world faiths.

If your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, they are entitled to universal free school meals. I strongly encourage you to take up this offer for your child if you don't already. If your child does bring a packed lunch to school, a gentle reminder to all families to cut grapes lengthways before sending them into school, as this significantly reduces potential choking hazards.

The PTA are still recruiting helpers for the upcoming summer fair on 4th July. Please do get in touch if you can help in any way (details on flier below).

Finally, we keep our Year 3 pupils in our prayers this weekend as they receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion on Sunday—a very special and sacred milestone in their faith journey.

Have a wonderful weekend.

What we have been learning about this week .....

Nursery:

This week we have continued reading 'Whatever Next!' by Jill Murphy.  We had a go at predicting what Baby Bear and the owl might do when they arrived on the moon, and most of the children guessed correctly that they would have a picnic!

In maths we have been learning all about capacity, filling and emptying containers in the classroom with coloured water using the language, full, empty, nearly full, nearly empty, half full, more, less.

Reception:

This week we have been learning about The Little Red Hen and have enjoyed retelling the story. We came up with some actions to the story and completed a story map too! We also looked at a recipe on how to make bread. It was really fascinating! In Maths, we have looked at shapes and their position. We have also started learning about Pentecost and the messages from the holy spirit.

Year 1:

This week in year 1 we have looked at quarters in maths. We have recognised and found a quarter of an object and shapes. Then we used counters to help us find a quarter of a quantity.

In English we have explored imperative verbs, adverbs and time conjunctions, we tried to include them when writing instructions on how to make a jam sandwich.

In RE, we have thought about the job Jesus gave the disciples to share the good news Jesus was alive again.

We have carried on exploring Jamaica in geography and though about how it is similar or different to London in England.

Year 3:

This week, we have been preparing for our First Holy Communion. We are very excited to be taking part in the special sacrament on Sunday! In English, we have been getting ready to write our newspaper articles by exploring different features, for example, we have recapped how to use direct speech correctly to be able to include quotes in our newspaper reports. In maths, we have continued our learning on capacity and volume and have compared the capacity and volume of different containers. We have also started to create our collages in art in the style of Pablo Picasso.

Next week, we will be writing our hot tasks in English. In maths, we will be revisiting fractions and will begin to add and subtract with them.

Year 3/4:

This week in Maths, we have enjoyed learning how to tell the time in 12 hour and 24 hour format. We have also been busy preparing for our Multiplication Times Tables Check which we will be doing next Month. Please get practising hard over the next few weeks. We will be moving on to decimal numbers next week. In English, we have been studying the features of a recipe as we prepare to write our own instructions in how to create a pizza. We will be designing and making pizzas in DT next week. In Reading, we have really enjoyed studying prosody this week and then showing off our skills through choral and pair reading. In Science, we recorded the results of our teeth investigate which involved leaving hard boiled eggs in different liquids to see which one wore away the shell (enamel) quickest. In Spanish, we have been learning how to say the name of some two dimensional shapes. Finally in RE, we have been learning about the story of Pentecost and examining how the gift of the Holy Spirit transformed the lives of the apostles and continues to transform our lives today.

Year 4:

In year 4 this week we have been very busy going through our times tables in time for the multiplication check in a few weeks time. We have also been recapping on how to tell the time. In English, we have started our new unit in which we are writing instructions of how to make a pizza from scratch. In RE, we are starting to look at the celebration of Pentecost. In science, we have been experimenting with egg shells and different liquids to see how they affect our teeth.

Year 5:

We have had another busy and exciting week in Year 5 with lots of great learning across the curriculum. This week in Science, we discussed the changes that happen to the body during puberty and how people grow and develop. In Maths, we practised adding and subtracting decimals using different methods to improve our accuracy and confidence. In English, we explored the biography of Ernest Shackleton and annotated a WAGOLL to identify key features of biography writing. In Art, we created beautiful artwork inspired by the famous artist Claude Monet using colour and texture to reflect his impressionist style.

Year 6:

This week Year 6 have been taking their SATs tests. They have worked extremely hard throughout the week either taking the tests or practising in the afternoons. They should all be proud of their efforts and we will eagerly await the results coming in July.
