Nursery:
This week the nursery children have been learning about Chinese New Year, accessing lots of activities in all areas of the curriculum.
Our book focus is 'The Gruffalo's Child', which continues to support our Winter topic. We have been using new language when exploring how water freezes and then melts.
In Maths, we have been reinforcing our learning of subitising to three. The children are now developing very quick responses to patterns and objects up to three.
Reception:
This week Reception have been celebrating Chinese New Year. We have had so much fun learning all about China and comparing it to England. We have been creating dragons, decorating fans and have even practised writing Chinese letters. In PE, we have learnt a fan dance and, in Literacy, we have used our phonics skills to write all about how the Chinese zodiac was created.
Year 1:
In Year 1, we have been learning a new parable, 'The Lost Sheep'. We have spoken about how the shepherd felt when one of his sheep was lost and then how he felt when he found the sheep. We also made paper plate sheep to go along with it for the RE display. In English, we've started a new class text called 'The Bear and the Piano'. We've discovered lots of different vocabulary that we intend to use in our hot task.
Year 2:
This week, we have been considering Jesus' miracles, in particular the Parable of the Talents. We have discussed how we can continue to demonstrate our talents to the world so that they can continue to grow. In English, we have begun reading the book 'Emmanuel's Dream', which is a true story of an athlete who overcame many obstacles to reach his dream. In Science, we have been looking at the best material to make a raincoat from and, this week, a bike shed! We are still working on multiplication and division in Maths, so any extra tables practise at home would be much appreciated.
Year 3:
This week in Year 3, the children have been reading a book called 'The River'. In this we follow a fish on their journey from the Rocky Mountains to the wide open sea. We have been writing a review of this journey and using the book as a lead into our next topic on rivers and mountains. In Maths, we are continuing our work on times tables and have started to work out multiplying 1-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers. In Spanish, we have been learning how to say and name different types of animals, in particular, pets. Finally, in RE, we have finished off our mini topic on how we can put Caritas into action. In particular, we have been thinking about our rights and responsibilities to looking after God's creations.
Year 4:
We are continuing our learning based on The Twits during English. This week, we have written formal letters to Mr and Mrs Twit in the role of one of their neighbours who is concerned about their treatment of the monkeys. During Maths, we have been multiplying a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number, as well as dividing numbers. Times tables are of paramount importance for us to be successful with this learning. Please encourage your child to be using TT RockStars as often as possible to help them with their fluency of their times tables up to 12x12.
Our 'Big Question' at the moment is, 'How can we grow and flourish to help build and strengthen society?' Please have a discussion with your child about what this question means to them and what impact they can have on the society they live in.
In Geography, we continue our study of Italy and have discovered some amazing human geographical features this week. We have been using Pivot to create digital art and have been enjoying using the Chromebooks during computing. Thank you for all of the fantastic homwework you have sent in so far. We enjoy seeing how creative you have been.
Year 5:
In English, we have been writing a narrative about deadly, killer plants with a science-fiction theme. We played a vocabulary game to help us understand the process authors go through when selecting the most suitable vocabulary. In Reading, we have analysed a text in order to make predictions and then reflected on how our predictions change as we learn more about each character and the situations they find themselves in. In Science, we learnt about the movement of the objects in our solar system and produced some wonderfully presented scientific posters of our solar system. In Art, we continued to create our pencil sketch of the Empire State Building. In RE, we used drama to act out the Sacrament of Baptism. We also used images, drawings and text to represent our understanding of the actions, symbols and signs of this sacrament. In Maths, we have been perfecting our use of long multiplication and applying it to problems in a context. Mr Quinn and Mrs Lodge were very impressed with all the hard work and especially the competition between the classes on TT Rockstars.
Year 6:
This week has been an assessment week. The children have practised arithmetic, Maths reasoning, reading and spelling.
