Nursery:
This week we have been listening to the story ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy to support our new topic of Space. One of the children shared her knowledge of the planets and helped the adults to put them in the right order. The children have been sharing their own thoughts about what it might be like in Space and what they would like to see.
In Maths, we have continued our learning of number three, counting three, making three and knowing the total altogether when three is split. We have used the story of The Three Little Pigs to reinforce this.
Reception:
In Reception this week we had an evil pea come to visit, and he caused havoc! We decided we needed to capture the evil pea, so the children got creative and designed traps. Eventually we caught him and put him into the freezer where he belonged. We then wrote about what we had done using our fabulous phonic knowledge. In Maths, we have been finding different ways to represent the numbers 6, 7, and 8 and have enjoyed using play dough to work this out. We have even been writing number sentences to show our findings. Our work on Baptism continued this week when we thought about the name we are given at a Baptism and why this is special.
Year 1:
We have been learning about the suffix -ed and how it is used in the past tense. We have been learning about Jairus' Daughter in RE, and we have acted it out in groups. In Geography, we have compared Jamaica with the UK using Venn diagrams.
Year 2:
This week, we have been continuing with our Geography topic of Africa and have studied some famous people from Africa. In RE, we have learnt about parables and have written our own prayer to thank God for looking after us. This week was also our 'Hot Task' and we wrote a fact file about Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah, who was influential in campaigning for the rights of disabled people.
Year 3:
This week we have continued to use our multiplication skills to work on multiplying 2-digit by 1-digit numbers. We have also been practising by completing the 33 club 3 times a week! In Science, we have finished our topic all about light. During this we have been measuring our shadows, learning about sun safety, thinking about how light travels and created our own shadow puppets. In RE, we have started our new topic 'Listening to God's word at Mass'. During this we spoke about the importance of listening and wondering what we would do if God called us to listen to him, just like Samuel.
Year 4:
This week, we have finished our maths unit on multiplication and division by dividing 3 digits by 1 digit using the bus stop method. In English, we have been researching the success steps to writing a biography, and we have written a biography about our friends. In RE, we focused on the story of Moses, and we thought about what God called Moses to do when he appeared in the burning bush. In Science this week, we have been investigating how a switch works and thinking about why we need switches, and we have enjoyed continuing our Geography topic of Greece by comparing Greece and Vancouver as Olympic cities. One of our favourite lessons this week was art, where we used small world figures to create a short animation using stop motion.
Year 5:
This week, in English, we have been finishing our narratives based around the Boy in the Tower. In Maths, we have been working on bus stop division and dealing with remainders in a context. In Reading, we explored the characteristics of the two main characters in our book - Cosmic. We had a wonderful time on our school trip at the National Space Centre in Leicester. We thoroughly enjoyed the Planetarium show and learnt so much about the Space Race and space exploration. In Art, we have completed our Empire State Building Drawing. The final pieces are amazing! Last term, we studied the Mexican Artist - Freda Kahlo. There is a Freda Kahlo exhibition in Coventry this month. This is a very unique opportunity to see the art of a world-famous artist.
