Nursery:
This week our focus has been around our feelings. We have read the book 'Bottled', written by our very own Mr Brassington, who also came in to read to the children.
They have looked at different colours mixed with water that they then chose to represent an emotion. This has helped the children to understand their own feelings and emotions and that it is okay to experience these and talk about them.
This week our Maths focus has been the number four, counting, building towers and representing four with lots of objects in the environment.
We have also completed our art work for the school exhibition, and I am sure you will be very proud of your child’s masterpiece, as are we.
Reception:
This week Reception discovered that the Evil Pea has escaped from our traps and has taken supertato! The Superveggies wrote to us asking for our help, so we created missing posters and went on a Supertato search! In Maths, we have been learning to add two amounts together using objects, and we have been using tens frames to show what we have done. The children have enjoyed talking about all their different feelings and how we can take care of our own mental health.
Year 1:
This week in English, Year 1 have been writing a beginning, middle and end for their story linked to the book 'The Bear and the Piano'. They have been working on addition in Maths and have been learning about the parable of the Prodigal Son in RE.
Year 2:
We have really enjoyed taking part in 'Children's Mental Health Week' this week. We have spoken about the importance of looking after our mental health, what could affect it and how to deal with difficult situations we might face. We were lucky enough to have Mr Brassington run a workshop with us to think about our emotions, and enjoyed story time with older children in the library at lunch.
We have also been finishing off our artwork for the upcoming art exhibition this week! We are so excited that our artwork is going to be available to purchase like a real artist!
In RE, we have begun our new unit of 'Special Celebrations and have identified he different colours of the Liturgical calendar and what they mean.
Year 3:
This week in year 3 we have been celebrating children's mental health week. We have been using Mr Brassington's Amazon number 1 best selling book 'Bottled', in order to show that sharing your emotions and also talking about them is a positive thing to do. We have also been working on the artwork in preparation for the exhibition coming up soon based on our emotions and the film 'Inside Out'. In RE, we have been preparing once again for First Holy Communion and held our second session in church on Tuesday evening, thank you to all who joined us. In Maths, we have continued to learn about different measurements and perimeter.
Year 4:
This week we have been celebrating Children's Mental Health Week. We have enjoyed sharing the book Bottled and having emotionally honest conversation. We have also loved creating our art work in preparation for our art exhibition.
We tend to spend a lot of time teaching children to care for, be kind to, and love other people, which is brilliant, but how much time do we spend teaching them to love themselves? We have used role play this week to help and encourage the children to love themselves as well as each other and be guided through Jesus' love.
“If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely!” - Roald Dahl.
Year 5:
This week we have been multiplying mixed numbers by integers in Maths. In Reading, we have written a persuasive email from the perspective of a character in our book. We have also practised our retrieval skills. In English, we have themed our work around Mental Health Week and produced some spectacular exploding books based around 'Bottled'. In Geography, we have studied the human geographical features of New York City and compared New York and London. In RE, we learnt about some of Jesus' most famous parables. We spent time trying to understand the message which they contained and then thought about how we can live out this message in our own lives. In Spanish, we continued to learn more vocabulary about items around our homes. In PE, we introduced corners into our hockey games. Mr Quinn and Mrs Lodge were very impressed by the skills shown by all pupils.
Year 6:
We have been writing a non-chronological report in English. In Maths, we have been using decimals. In Reading, we are still looking at Tales of Terror. In PE, we have practised forward rolls and skills in Handball. In RE, we looked at the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. In Music, we have been practising La Bamba. In Spanish, we have been continuing with our theme of 'Towns'. In Science, we are looking at building circuits, and in Geography we are continuing to understand 'Trade'.
