Nursery:
This week the children have been learning about Baptism, where they are given their name and welcomed into the family of God. They have taken part in role playing a baptism with the dolls, giving them a name and blessing them with wafter, as well as practising recognition and writing of their name. Thank you for sharing your photographs of this very special time, the children have thoroughly enjoyed seeing themselves up on the big screen and talking about their special day.
A big thank you too for all the recycling you have sent in for the children to be able to make their space rockets, buggies and aliens. There has been lots of cutting, glueing and taping going on in the nursery this week, keeping the children very busy indeed!
Wishing you all a happy half-term.
Reception:
This week reception have been thinking about the importance of prayer. We have discussed lots of different ways that we can pray and why we pray. We have then thought of our own prayers to say, 'Thank you' to God. In Maths, we have been using the vocabulary 'taller', 'shorter' and 'longer' to compare objects, as well as learning the days of the week and using the words 'today', 'yesterday' and 'tomorrow'.
Year 1:
This week we have been making Rainbow fruit kebabs using Jamaican-inspired fruit. It has been so much fun cutting and slicing different fruit. We learnt about the fruit that grows in tropical climates.
Year 2:
It's D&T week this week, and Year 2 have been having a super time designing and making their safari vehicles! They have studied different types of vehicles, technical words such as chassis and axel and thought about the purpose of the buggy. They look fantastic, and we can't wait to try them out! Thank you for all of your cardboard donations from home.
In English, we have been writing a poem about being on safari in Africa, using our senses and expanded noun phrases. In Maths, we have been continuing with our money unit; making a pound, calculating money and change. In RE, we have looked at special celebrations such as weddings and baptism and discussed how these are celebrated in church.
We wish you a lovely, restful half-term.
Year 3:
We have had a very creative week in year 3. Our DT project was to design and make a 3D river model using Modroc. As a year group, we created a huge model, and all had fun making it. On top of thant, we really have furthered our already extensive knowledge about the life of a river. In Art, we have created our very own Banksy! This was based on his picture 'Balloon Girl', the finished and framed pictures will be on display and available to buy in our art exhibition during parents' evenings. In English, we have produced some non-fiction writing all about rivers and, in Maths, we have finished our topic on length and perimeter.
Year 4:
During DT week, we have been making Greek temples that could be used as protection for the Greek Gods. We have really enjoyed thinking about the circuits that we will be using to light the temples up, as well as designing our temples in groups, thinking about the structure and details of our Greek temples. We have worked extremely well in teams, and we are really proud of what we have managed to produce.
In Maths this week, we have continued our unit on measurement by looking at perimeter, and how to find the perimeter and the missing lengths of rectilinear shapes. In English, we have been researching Roald Dahl, and we have written a biography of Roald Dahl, including his achievements and early life.
Please encourage your child to continue to use Times Tables Rockstars to improve their times tables fluency.
Year 5:
In English, we have been studying poetry and used New York and some Art Deco design as inspiration for our own poems about New York City. In Reading, we read more of our book - Cosmic. We then stepped into the shoes of other characters and explored how each perceived the others. In Maths, we have finished our unit on multiplying fractions and finding fractions of amounts. We have begun our decimals and percentages unit. We have been very creative in Y5 this week. In RE, we learned about the sayings of Jesus and how his words and parables gave us advise on how to act and behave in order to grow the Kingdom of God. In Art, we produced some stunning 'Cosmic-themed' artwork based on the art of Peter Thorpe. In DT, we created our very own moon buggies. Mr Quinn and Mrs Lodge had us using saws and creating axels! We learnt a lot about the importance of ground clearance and how functionality comes before aesthetics.
