Nursery:
The nursery children have had a lovely week exploring what we need to grow a plant or a flower. We have started to read the story 'Jasper’s Beanstalk' to support this learning.
In Maths, we have been looking at the number 5 and different ways of making 5.
For World Book Day, we listened to the story 'We’re Going on a Bear Hunt' and completed lots of activities around this story. The children had a fantastic time role playing the story with lots of props in the outdoor learning environment.
Reception:
Reception have been learning all about the start of Lent. We have had lots of fun making and eating pancakes as we learnt all about Shrove Tuesday. We have also spent some time thinking about what we will give up or change for Lent and how we can be more like Jesus. In Maths, we have been looking at the numbers 9 and 10 and how we can represent these numbers in different ways.
Year 1:
This week we have been thinking of all the things that go in our toolkit for our Hot Task, ready to write a set of instructions on how to tidy the woods. We used exclamation marks to add emphasis and spelt the days of the week correctly. On Thursday, it was World Book Day, when we learnt the importance of reading and enjoyed looking through a variety of different books with our friends. It was a lot of fun!
Year 2:
We've had a great week back here in Year 2! We were all really glad to be back and have done some super exciting things. This week is our assessment week, so the children have been stars in completing these. In RE, we learnt about Lent and its significance, and we even got to eat a pancake! In Science, we started our new topic about living things and their habitats. In Reading, we have started our exciting book 'Grandad's Island' and the children have been making some excellent predictions and inferences about what may happen. We have also learnt about the famous artist Andy Warhol and will be practising printing next week!
Year 3:
This week, the children in year 3 have been working hard completing their spring term assessments. They have done us very proud with their attitude towards these tests. The children taking their First Holy Communion took part in their first reconciliation on Thursday and were so respectful of this sacrament. We also enjoyed World Book Day this week, joining in with a live theatre production. Finally, rehearsals for the Easter production got under way this week, we cannot wait to showcase this to parents
Year 4:
We are so proud of the resilience and determination every member of Year 4 has shown throughout our assessments this week. These assessments are really useful for us to help the children move forward with their learning. Our spelling rule this week is where 'au' makes an 'or' sound (author). Please make sure that your child is going on to Spelling Shed to practise the weekly spellings. In RE, we have explored the story of Moses and the Ten Plagues. Times Tables continue to be a focus for us, and we would encourage you to ensure you child is practising daily. During Art, we have started our new topic of sculptures and we have been learning about the sculpture Barbra Hepworth. This half-term, we are learning about the Ancient Greeks in our history lessons. This week, we have created a timeline of the significant events which happened during this time.
Year 5:
This week in Year 5, we have been working really hard completing our assessments. In addition, we have been playing games and having quizzes to help us recall information we learnt last term (part of our little and often approach). In Maths lessons, we have continued to explore decimal place value to thousandths. In Reading, we explored inference and retrieval questions. In RE, we learnt about the Catholic traditions surrounding Ash Wednesday and why Lent is such an important time of year. In PE, we began learning Handball (one of Mr Quinn's favourite sports). Mr Quinn and Mrs Lodge were very impressed with the skills on show and the enthusiasm shown by all pupils. In History, we have begun our Anglo-Saxon and Vikings topic and have investigated what Saxon England was like before the Vikings invaded
Year 6:
This week in Year 6 we have been learning about Ratio in Maths. In English, we have been writing short paragraphs of Narrative. In Reading, we read about the Jinn from Tales of Terror. In PE, we have started Dance and Athletics. In RE, we have started to write about Lent. In Art, we have started to look at the work of Morris. In Spanish, we are looking at Verb Tenses. We also had a great World Book Day solving a crime by reading through information and evidence.
