Nursery:
This week we have continued our learning around Jasper’s Beanstalk and, wow, what a surprise we had on Monday morning when the children came in and found that the beans were beginning to grow!
We have been consolidating our learning of number 5 and how to make 5 in lots of ways using different resources. Why not try this at home?
Next week we are starting our Lenten journey and thinking about Mother’s Day.
Reception:
Reception have had a special visitor! When we returned to the classroom after dinner we found a giant hanging from the ceiling! He had dropped some leaves and magic beans on the floor. This reminded us of the story 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. Together, we drew a story map and wrote the story using story language. In Maths, we have been finding different ways of making 10 using objects and numicon to help us.
Year 1:
This week we have visited an Art Exhibition, where we saw our artwork mounted and framed. It felt like we were walking into a REAL gallery. We were so proud of ourselves. W e have also been completing assessments this week and tried hard to keep going.
Year 2:
It has been a busy week here in Year 2! We have loved seeing our artwork on display, framed and hung up! It was lovely to be able to share these with our parents and carers at parents' evening too. We have covered measuring length and height in Maths and measured objects in centimetres and metres. In Science, we have looked at seeds and bulbs and their differences. Following on from our 'Movers and Shakers' history work, we have been planning to write a diary of Neil Armstrong and the famous moon landing. We also studied Rosa Parks in History. In RE, we have learnt about the parable of 'The Lost Sheep' and how we are all important to God.
Year 3:
This week we have been very excited to start our new book in reading, which is a graphic novel that tells the story of Easter titled 'The Third Day'. In English, we have been working hard on our grammar skills and, in particular, inverted commas. We now know how to include these in our narratives. In Maths, we have started our new topic on fractions and continue to work on our times tables. In Geography, we have researched and written about some of the most famous rivers and mountains in the world and across the UK. In RE, we have started our topic on Lent, thinking about the time Jesus spent in the desert and what we can do during the season of Lent as Catholics.
Year 4:
This week, we were very excited to receive a scroll from Hercules to request our trust in keeping his secret safe! We replied back to him with first person letters, using our vocabulary to convince Hercules that we are trustworthy and loyal. In Maths, we have started our new unit on fractions and understanding the whole. In Art, we designed our Greek vase sculptures, including the shape and design, ready to begin sculpting them next week. Our new topic in science is sound, where we investigated how sound travels using rice and a drum to show how the vibrations help us to hear the sound of the drum. We have been working super hard at practising the Easter play. If your child has lines to learn, please encourage them to make sure they are familiar with these lines and can read them off by heart.
Please continue to encourage your child to practice their times tables using Times Tables Rockstars to prepare them for their multiplication check.
Year 5:
This week we have been studying decimal place value in Maths. We have explored how to add and subtract decimal numbers with a different number of the digits. In English, we have started studying the Anglo-Saxon classic tale - Beowulf; we have been busy story mapping and writing a cold task based on a legend. In Reading, we have been exploring positive and negative characteristics and finding evidence to back up our point of view. In Science, we have learnt about how day and night occurs. In RE, we have looked in detail at the temptation of Jesus and how his actions inspire us today.
