Nursery:
This week we have been reading ‘Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson. The story is about a butterfly helping monkey to find his mummy. We have been talking about what is special about our mums and our families and have been very creative this week. Look out for something special from your child.
Wishing all our mums a lovely Mothering Sunday.
Reception:
This week reception have enjoyed learning all about plants and how they grow. The children have planted their very own magic beans, and we are hoping that we can grow our very own beanstalks! On Wednesday, we had a special visitor to tell us all about their farm and how bread is made. The children even got to make their own flour! Next week we will be looking at the book 'The Three Little Pigs' and using our story language to retell the story.
Year 1:
This week we have been writing a diary entry pretending to be Florence Nightingale. We wrote about the importance of her role and why she is significant. We made sure to include everything from our toolkit, for example suffix -ed, prefix un-, capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. All the diary entries written were to a very high standard. In RE, we have been thinking about Jesus’ temptation in the dessert and how he sacrificed and didn’t give in to temptation for 40 days. This reminded us about the importance and true message of Lent. In Science, we’ve learnt all about John Boyd Dunlop, who was the scientist that invented Dunlop tyres.
Year 2:
We are really enjoying celebrating the season of Lent and love watching 'Open for Lent' each day. In our RE lessons we have been continuing to think about forgiveness and the Sacramet of Reconciliation. We learnt all about Christopher Columbus in history this week. In English, we are working towards our 'Hot Task' of Neil Armstrong's diary and have thought about how it would feel on the journey. In Maths, we have started our new unit of mass, capacity and temperature and have learnt about grams and kilograms. We also enjoyed a super live lesson as part of British Science Week when we looked at farming. We had a brilliant workshop about what is in our lunchbox too!
Year 3:
This week in year 3 we have continued to put a huge effort into learning our lines and the songs for the Easter play, we are so excited for our parents and special visitors to see the finished production. This has also helped with our topics and reading all about Holy Week and the lead up to Easter. We are thoroughly enjoying the graphic novel 'The Third Day' all about the stations of the cross and over the next couple of weeks we will be producing our own graphic novels on the same topic. In Maths, we are continuing to work on fractions and next week will be working on equivalent fractions. In Geography, we are putting the finishing touches to our unit on rivers and mountains.
Year 4:
During English this week, we have written diaries from the perspective of Hercules. We wrote about one of his labours and used first person pronouns and past tense. We are continuing our preparations for the Easter Play and continuing to reflect on our Lenten Promises. Our confidence continues to grow with our fraction work. During History, we researched Ancient Greece Gods and Goddesses.
Next week, we are creating a mythical creature and a setting for our Hercules labour in English. During our Maths lessons, we will be converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and also looking at equivalent fractions.
Year 5:
This week, we have been exploring percentages in Maths. We have looked at the relationship between decimals, fractions and percentages and have used physical, pictorial and abstract models to show equivalents. Next week, we are studying area and perimeter of compound shapes. In English, we have been busy writing our own legend story based around the ancient Anglo-Saxon legend - Beowulf. The descriptions have been incredible and Mr Quinn and Mrs Lodge are looking forward to reading all the finished pieces. We will be finishing these next week before moving on to kenning poems. In RE, we have been studying Saint Paul's letters and exploring how they can help us during Lent.
Year 6:
This week Year 6 have been busy preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Those children who are involved, took part in an assembly showing their work; singing songs and recognising and sharing in the importance of this moment in their lives. We were all proud of their efforts and their attitudes in the run up to next week's visit by Bishop Stephen and our Confirmation Mass. We have also been working hard practising for our SATs in our assessment week.
Next week in Maths, we are looking at geometry, so it would be helpful if the children recap shape facts. We will also be calculating the area and perimeter of shapes. In English, we will begin writing our scary stories.
