Nursery:
This week we have been continuing our learning around 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', sequencing and recording all that he ate - which was a lot! In Maths, we have been using descriptive words, e.g. long, longer, longest, short, shorter, shortest, tall, taller, tallest to describe length and height of ourselves, caterpillars and beanstalks. Ask your children to give examples of these describing objects around the home and garden.
We have also been learning about Holy Week. We shared the bible story of Palm Sunday and role-played Jesus arriving in Jerusalem. The children are beginning to understand that we make the sign of the cross at the beginning and end of prayers to remind us that Jesus died on the cross. We will continue with the Easter story after the half-term. Wishing you a happy and holy Easter.
Reception:
This week reception have been learning all about the events of Holy week. We have acted out the different events and talked about how Jesus felt during this week. In Maths, we have been recapping our number bonds to 10 and using them to solve problems. We have also been measuring our own beanstalks that we planted in class! I wonder how tall they will grow at home...
Year 1:
In Year 1, we have been finishing our History topic on Significant People. We have learnt so much about nurses from the past and how they helped soldiers who fought in the war. In Maths, we have been measuring different heights and lengths with a rule. We learnt the importance of starting at 0 on the number line.
Year 2:
It has been DT week this week and we have been perfecting our sewing skills by making a pouch for Christopher Columbus to take on his travels! In Maths, we have continued learning about fractions - in particular half, quarters and thirds, and will be continuing this the first week back after Easter. In English, we wrote a letter as Emmeline Pankhurst, persuading people to join the Suffragettes! We learnt about Holy Week in RE and enjoyed watching the Year 3 and 4 performance. We will be sending home a Maths and English booklet for over the holidays for extra practise as we approach SATs next term, however this is optional. Have a wonderful break!
Year 3:
What a week and what an unbelievable performance by all the children during the Easter Play. They have sung beautifully, acted superbly and not only that, have learned the valuable lessons and reasons behind why we celebrate Lent, Holy week and Easter each year. We hope that you enjoyed the performances as much as we did performing them
We have created sock bunnies during DT this week and have created some fantastic designs that will make wonderful little Easter decorations.
We hope everyone has a wonderful Easter break. Remember to read regularly, use TTRockStars and also Spelling Shed during the holidays.
Year 4:
What a week we've had! We hope that you enjoyed our Easter play and the poignant message ruining through it. Well done to everyone on the splendid performance!
We have explored pop-up books during DT this week and have created some fantastic books containing a variety of mechanism from flaps to sliders.
We hope everyone has a wonderful Easter break. Remember to read regularly, use TTRockStars and also Spelling Shed. Times tables will continue to be our focus after Easter, and it would be helpful to use timestables.co.uk over the break.
Year 5:
This week in Year 5, we thoroughly enjoyed DT week. We investigated security systems and electric circuits. We then constructed a push to break switch in the form of a pressure pad and then designed a welcome mat to conceal our alarm system. In Science, we learned about air resistance and investigated parachutes. In RE, we looked at maps of ancient Jerusalem and labelled the locations of significant events of Holy Week. In Maths, we studied statistics in the form of line graphs and tables. In English, we studied perfect, progressive and simple tense. In Reading, we finished reading our book - Cosmic, which has been a real favourite with pupils. Next term, we will be learning about Ernest Shackleton and his adventures in the Antarctic. We will also be learning about properties of shape, translation and symmetry in Maths.
Year 6:
In Year 6 this week we have been finishing, editing and publishing our scary stories. In RE, we have looked at how Jesus felt in the Garden of Gethsemane. In Maths, we have studied angles and triangles. In History, we looked at the Industrial Revolution. Our DT project this week was to make a cushion. We have been revising arithmetic and practising our reading comprehension.
During the holidays, we would like to encourage all the children in Year 6 to work through their revision booklet - completing a little bit each day is perfect!
