Nursery :
This week in Nursery we have been learning about Bears. We have looked at different types of bears, where they live and what they eat. Our story is 'Where’s my teddy?’ by Jez Alborough, where Eddie lost his teddy in the woods. This has encouraged conversations about how we might feel if we lost something special to us.
In Maths, we have been talking about positional language e.g. on, under, in front, behind, next to, beside, and in, demonstrating this using the compare bears.
Reception:
This week Reception started to learn all about farms! We have been thinking about the different jobs on a farm and why farms are important. We have even been designing our own farms and creating maps of our farms. In Maths, we have been learning all about doubling and the children have really impressed us with their recall of number facts! Next week, we will be learning all about the Kings Coronation ready for our afternoon of celebration on Friday.
Year 1:
This week we have been continuing our learning on Marie Curie. We have really thought about how to write interesting sentences including adjectives and have written some fabulous Fact Files all about Marie Curie's life. In Maths, we have continued to practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, which has helped us to complete our work on arrays. Finally, in RE, we have deepened our understanding of the Easter Story by creating our own Paschal Candle and thinking about why it is so important at Easter time.
Year 2:
This week, we have been busy in English creating text maps and boxing up our story 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley', leading up to our Hot Task to write our own version, which we will complete next week. In Maths, we have now finished fractions and have moved on to telling the time on an analogue clock, this will continue into next week too, any help at home with this would be much appreciated. We have covered o'clock, half past, quarter past and to, and will be moving onto 5 minutes intervals next.
In RE, we have read the story of 'Doubting Thomas' and 'The Road to Emmaus', which got us all talking and thinking about how Jesus visited his disciples after his Resurrection. We are continuing with Digital Art using the Chromebooks and Gymnastics and 'Run, Jump, Throw' in PE. In other exciting news, our sunflowers have begun to grow! We have been watering them daily and are observing them over time.
Year 3:
This week we welcomed the parents of those taking their First Holy Communion into school on Tuesday evening to talk through final preparations ready for the big day on 10th June. In Re this week, we have also been continuing the story of Easter and discussing the various times that Jesus visited the disciples after his resurrection. In Maths, we are continuing to tell the time on an analogue clock, keep practising this at home! In English and Reading we have started our new book, called 'The Green Ship'. Finally, in Science we have been working on magnets and forces and have been researching Isaac Newton.
Year 4:
Our investigation in Science involved chocolate this week. We looked at changing states and discovered the melting point of chocolate. We had a brilliant time in music this week learning the song 'Oh Happy Days'. We all enjoyed learning the rap part of the song and finding the beat of the music. During English, we have finished our hot task where we wrote the 13th labour of Hercules in first person. During RE, we compared 4 different gospel accounts of the resurrection.
Please can we ask that you are using spelling shed. Children have access to the spelling words liked to the rule we have focused on in class and it's a brilliant resource to embed their learning.
Next week we will be studying haikus in English and decimals in Maths looking at tenths and dividing by 10.
Year 5:
This week in Maths, we have been studying geometry with a focus on angles. We have been estimating and measuring angles, which takes a great deal of precision. We will continue to learn about angles and shape next week. In English, we have been looking at the features and structure of biographies as we build up to writing our biography about Ernest Shackleton. In Reading, we have been exploring figurative language in poetry and will be beginning our new book - Kensuke's Kingdom next week. In RE, we have been exploring the emotions of those who witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus. In PE, we have been playing some team building and communicate games and have been playing tennis.
Year 6:
This week in Year 6 we have started to write a letter from the point of view of a Victorian child who has been sent to a workhouse. In Maths, we have been practising arithmetic and plotting co-ordinates. Next week, in Maths, we will be revising fractions, algebra, Roman numerals, time and calculation problems. In RE, we have started our Easter unit and we are looking at the events that occurred after the Resurrection. In Reading, we have been practising answering questions about Poems. In PE, we are continuing with TAG-Rugby and Dance. In History, we are researching the Victorian Empire and, in Art, we have finished off our William Morris art.
