Nursery :
The children have been listening to the story ‘The King’s Pants’ by Nicholas Allan and all activities have linked to the King’s Coronation. We have learnt about King Charles and his family and his role as a king.
In Maths, we have been learning about ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ and making towers using new language to compare them.
We hope you all enjoyed the afternoon coronation celebration.
Reception:
This week we have been learning all about King Charles III. We have learnt about his life and the different roles and charity events he supports. We have enjoyed writing invitations for a party to celebrate the Coronation and made crowns which we can wear for the party. In Maths, we have been looking at shapes and finding different shapes within bigger shapes. We have also looked at right angles within shapes. Next week we are continuing our learning about our farm topic.
Year 1
This week we have started reading our new book 'The King's Pants'. We have thought about the sequence of the book and any words we are unfamiliar with. In RE, we have been focusing on the story of St Peter and understanding what it means to be one of Jesus' disciples. In Maths, we have been considering how to group and share out items equally.
Year 2:
This week, we have been busy completing our 'Telling Time' unit in Maths. We have been learning about past the hour, to the hour, the time to 5 minutes and minutes and hours in a day. Next week, we are moving on to Statistics - block graphs, pictograms and charts, however continuing to practise telling time at home will be very useful.
In English, we have written our Hot Task - our own version of 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley' and we are really pleased with them! In RE, we learnt about the Paschal Candle and its significance, and designed our own version. We have begun some revision too, before our SAT's begin in Week 5. Our sunflowers are growing really well too; they will soon be too tall for the pots!
Year 3:
This week in year 3 we have been continuing our work on time in Maths, this has included thinking about minutes in an hour, days in a week and months in a year. In English, we have started to plan our own adventure story based on 'The Green Ship'. In RE, we have started our new topic on the Eucharist as we begin to finalise our preparations for First Holy Communion. Finally, we had an amazing day on Friday celebrating the coronation of King Charles III.
Year 4:
This week we have been thinking about the kings' coronation in English. We wrote a letter to the king to give him words of encouragement and advice as his coronation approaches. In Maths, we have been focusing on tenths and dividing one-digit numbers by 10. In Science this week, we looked at the three stages of water and the process of changing between the states.
Next week, we will be continuing our decimal work in Maths and, in English, we are starting our unit on Newspaper reports.
Year 5:
It has been another action-packed week in Year 5. In Maths, we have been studying angles and how to calculate missing values in straight and around a point angles. Next week, we will be looking at regular and irregular shapes and properties of 2D shapes. In English, we have been constructing relative clauses, pronouns, and continue to build up our toolkit as we begin to write our Ernest Shackleton biographies next week. In Reading, we have begun our new book - Kensuke's Kingdom which has proved very popular so far! In Science, we had fun exploring properties of materials and enjoyed a "feeling bag' sensory activity, which helped pupils focus on an object's properties without being able to see it. We will be experimenting with soluble and insoluble materials next week. In RE, we enjoyed learning about the Easter Vigil and how the symbolism used in worship relates to scripture. Year 5A will welcome Miss Dixie back next week. She will be with us for the next 3 weeks.
Year 6:
Year 6 have been busy preparing for SATs - The children's attitude has been amazing as we hurtle towards next week. Please make sure that the weekend is used for relaxing and enjoying the Bank Holiday and all the celebrations that are taking place. We hope the children are ready and energised on their return to school on Tuesday morning for SATs breakfast club!
