Nursery:
This week the children have been reading 'This is the Bear' by Sarah Hayes. They are beginning to hear the rhyming strings and recall the missing words at the end of each sentence during re-telling of the story. We have continued with rhyming strings in our phonics sessions too.
In Maths, we are learning about the properties of 2D shapes. We will be building on this next week when we learn about 3D shapes.
Reception:
This week Reception have read the book 'What the Ladybird Heard'. The children have been writing character descriptions so that the local farmers can keep a look out for Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len to make sure they don't try to steal any of their fine prize cows! In Maths, we have been learning about odd and even numbers by pairing up objects and seeing if there is an 'odd one out'. Next week we will begin learning all about Pentecost.
Year 1:
This week, in RE, we have been learning about the word 'promise'. We have thought deeply about what it means and how it makes us feel when a promise is broken. In Maths, we have been finding half of a shape and 2 amounts. We also folded a piece of paper in half to see what two halves look like. In English, we are still reading 'The King's Pants' and have really enjoyed it. We have thought really carefully about the problem in the story and how it has been solved towards the end. It was great to have a class discussion about the Coronation of King Charles III that took place recently.
Year 2:
This week we are working hard to prepare for our SATs, which will take place over the next 2 weeks. The children have been completing practise papers, and we are talking over how to solve the questions. We have enjoyed writing a recount of our fabulous Coronation Afternoon in English, where we retold all the fun activities we got up to last Friday! In RE, we are beginning to learn about Pentecost and how the disciples of Jesus may have felt at different times.
Any practise or help at home prior to the SATs next week is much appreciated.
Year 3:
This week we have planned and written our own adventure story based on 'The Green Ship'. We have been focussing on interesting vocabulary and a range of sentence starters. In RE, we have continued to think about the structure of a Mass and, in particular, the Liturgy of the Eucharist. We have thought about the word 'sacrifice' and the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made. In Maths, we are continuing to work on time, looking at working out durations. In Spanish, we have started looking at a new topic of 'At the Cafe', learning the Spanish words for items you might find at a restaurant.
Year 4:
After writing our cold task about the King's Coronation in English, we have started exploring newspaper reports. We researched volcanoes to help us when we create our hot task. We have continued to explore decimals in Maths and have divided by 100 where the answer has tenths and hundredths. Timetables continue to be part of our daily learning. It is essential that you are using TTRockStars and timestables.co.uk to help prepare for the multiplication check straight after half-term. Leading Wake-up-Shake-up was good fun this week and the routine we created will now be used often. In PE, we used movements and balances where we focused on our core strength.
Next week we will be using decimals in Maths, when we will be ordering, comparing and rounding. In English, we will be writing a newspaper report using direct and indirect speech.
Year 5:
This week we have been exploring different types of angles, and regular and irregular shapes. We did some journaling on Friday to show off the depth of our understanding. Next week, we are studying coordinates, translation and symmetry. Please encourage your child to keep practising their times tables on TT Rocks Stars and to read as much as possible. In English, we completed our hot task, which was a biography about Ernest Shackleton. Next week, we will be exploring his journey through the Antarctic and will be building up to writing a diary entry. In Reading, we have enjoyed inferring details about Michael (the main character). In Science, we conducted an experiment to discover which materials were soluble and insoluble. In RE, we explored the Resurrection of Jesus and the events immediately after it. Next week, we will be learning about the Ascension.
Year 6:
This week Year 6 have been absolutely amazingly fantastic with their attitude and approach towards SATs. They have been like a great big team coming in for breakfast club and supporting each other when the going was hard. Their behaviour and conduct have been truly outstanding - WELL DONE ALL CHILDREN! - Please be ready to return on Monday for more hard work as we now concentrate on making our writing even more amazing.
