Nursery:
'Peace at Last' by Jill Murphy has been our story focus this week. The children are beginning to understand more about how to sequence a story using a story map and also having a go at drawing their own. The book has presented opportunities to reinforce language linked to day and night and time.
In Maths, we have been learning about the 3D shapes, cubes, cuboids, cylinders and spheres. See if the children can spot these shapes around the home or when they are out and about.
Reception:
Reception have been using their knowledge of farm animals to write their own riddles! The children have really enjoyed sharing their work with everyone and solving each other's riddles. In Maths, we have been describing and solving problems using 'first, then and now' and we will continue this learning next week. In RE, we have started to learn about Pentecost. The children have also had a great time exploring our new outdoor sandpit.
Year 1:
This week we have completed one of our Hot Task's for the King's Pants. We have written a 'missing' poster to try and locate the pants and have thought very carefully about our sentence structure and use of interesting adjectives. In Maths, we have continued our multiplication and division unit. We have looked carefully at recognising and making quarters. We are really good at sharing out an amount between 4 equal groups. In RE, we have focussed carefully on the story of Pentecost and considered the promise that Jesus made. We have sequenced the story and retold it to really demonstrate our understanding.
Year 2:
This week we have been super resilient and courageous in tackling our SATs tests! The children have been fantastic and have completed them in a sensible, mature and admirable way.
We have also been continuing our learning about Pentecost and the disciples. In Geography, we have learnt about coastlines and have researched coastlines of the UK. Thank you for all of your help and preparation at home leading up to this week.
Year 3:
This week in year 3 we have started a new unit in maths, all about shape. We have strated to learn about different types of angles, identifying right-angles and learning the names of types of lines such as vertical and horizontal. In English, we have finished and edited our amazing advenbture stories based on the Green Ship. In reading we have started an ew book, the classic 'Iron Man' story, by Ted Hughes. In RE, we have been looking at the different parts of the liturgy of the Eucahrist and thinking about the different words that we sing and say during Mass.
Year 4:
We have had a fun week in Year 4 this week. In Geography, we built on our knowledge of 4-figure grid references and learnt how to read a map using 6-figure grid references. We had a treasure hunt of the school field and playground using these maps to find clues to a hidden word. In Science, we learnt about the water cycle. We planted cress seeds to make our own mini water cycle, and we are looking forward to observing these over the next week to see if we can spot the water droplets on the cling film from the condensation. In English, we have written a newspaper report about our chosen volcano and, in Maths, we have continued our work on decimals by comparing and ordering. In RE, we started our unit on Pentecost and exploring what impact the Holy Spirit had on the disciples and the impact it continues to have today.
Next week is DT week, and we cannot wait to see the children continue to use the skills they have learnt so far this year and develop even more skills. In Maths, we will be looking at money and, in English, we are going to write a Haiku.
Year 5:
This week in Year 5, we have been studying coordinates, translation and symmetry in Maths. Next week, we will be looking at decimal numbers and focusing on place value and the four operations. In English, we have been building up our toolkit as we work towards our next hot task - a diary entry from the perspective of a stowaway on a polar expedition. In Reading, we have been exploring vocabulary choices and character emotions in Kensuke's Kingdom. In Science, we conducted an experiment to discover what methods are best suited when separating a range of materials. In Spanish, we studied pets and the names of domestic animals. In RE, we wrote a newspaper report tracking the appearances of the risen Jesus after the resurrection but before the Ascension.
Next week, we are looking forward to DT week, where we will be making wallets!
Year 6:
In Year 6 we have been doing Algebra in Maths. In English, we have started to look at a new unit of persuasive writing about sustainable farming. In Art, we have started our Rousseau work. In RE, we have looked at the story of Pentecost. In Spanish, we are learning the vocabulary of food and phrases you might say in a café. In Geography, we have started to look at the Rainforest climate.
