Nursery:
Welcome back to the final half-term of the school year! We have been sharing the story of 'The Slurpy Burpy Bear'. The story is about a bear who went looking for a friend. We discussed what makes a good friend, who our friends are and why. We have painted pictures of our friends for our Friendship display.
In Maths, we have been comparing the weights of objects, collecting resources around the classroom to weigh on the balance scales to discover which are heavy and which are light. Next week will be our final week of our topic on bears and we look forward to our Forest School visit.
Reception:
This week we have packed our suitcases ready for our imaginary trip to Australia! Over the next few weeks we will be learning all about the different features of Australia and comparing it to the UK. In Maths, we have been learning to solve subtraction problems using our 'first, then, now' stories, and we are working hard to record our learning using pictures and numbers.
Year 1:
This week we have started our new book 'Lost at the Toy Museum'. We have discussed any vocabulary that we are unfamiliar with and have sequenced the story to help our understanding. In Maths, we have thought carefully about numbers up to 50 and have continued to practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We have also really enjoyed learning all about Angie Lewin, who is an artist who specialises in botanical printing.
Year 2:
We have made a great start back to the summer term in Y2!
We have begun looking at the book 'Journey', which is wordless, and are beginning to think about our own version. In Maths, we have learnt about position and direction and went out to the field to put it into practice! In RE, we have learnt what it is to be part of a community, as well as the sacrament of Confirmation. In Science, we are learning about animals and their different habitats. Next week, we will be recapping addition, subtraction and place value.
Year 3:
This week we have been very busy rehearsing for our First Holy Communion celebration on Saturday, we are all very excited and fully prepared for our special day. In English, we have been thinking about formal language and persuasive writing, we will use a new-found skill to write a letter to our local MP asking for funds to develop our outside learning area. In Maths, we have moved on to a new topic; money. In Reading, we have continued to read 'The Iron Man' and are really enjoying this exciting book. In Geography, we have finished our topic on canals by looking at how locks work and by developing a stretch of canal outside Oxford to improve tourism.
Year 4:
This week we have been working on time in Maths, including analogue, 12-hour and 24-hour digital clocks and converting between the three. In English, we have written a recipe for the pizzas that we made before half-term, focusing on the organisational devices needed, as well as time adverbials and imperative verbs. In RE, we have been looking at how the church is a global community, and the importance of Rome as a city for Catholics.
We have started our multiplication checks this week. Please can you make sure your child is using timestables.co.uk daily, to ensure that they are prepared for their check.
Year 5:
This week we have been studying decimal place value in Maths and using decimals with addition and subtraction. Next week we will be exploring negative numbers. In English, we have been studying persuasive language and the features they include. This is part of the build up to our next hot task. In Reading, we had fun exploring what we would buy the characters in the book if we had £20 to spend. In History, we studied the Battling of Hastings and why the Normans won. In PE, we started our athletics and rounders units. Mr Quinn and Mrs Lodge were very impressed with the batting and throwing skills on show. In RE, we started learning about Pentecost and the impact the Holy Spirit has on the lives of those who receive it. Please continue to practise your times tables and read as much as possible every night.
Year 6:
This week we have started our new Topic in English: writing an adventure/journey story based on 'The Explorer'. In Reading, we are continuing with 'Maisie Day'. In Maths, we have been investigating graphs and solving time problems. PE has been based on Tennis skills. In RE, we are looking at the Church community and, in Geography, we are continuing to look at Brazil - in particular, the Rainforest. As well as all this, we have started to prepare for our end-of-year performance.
