Nursery:
Nursery thoroughly enjoyed a lovely morning with Ed and Debbie from Little Acorns Forest School. The children decorated then manually drilled holes in name tags for either themselves or their teddies, played hide and seek, went on a treasure hunt, made a friendship bracelet and a clay model of their teddy. We all sat down together for a picnic and talked about our favourite part of the morning.
Reception:
This week, Reception have taken a trip Down Under! We looked at what The Great Barrier Reef looks like from the aeroplane, and then we went scuba diving in the ocean. We saw lots of incredible sea creatures. We then wrote a postcard to Mrs Sherratt to tell her all about what we saw. In Maths, we have been sharing and grouping items for a picnic. It was important to make sure all the animals had the same number of items so that it was equal and fair.
Year 1:
This week we have been super busy! It has been Phonics Screening Week and Assessment Week, and we have worked so hard. We have used our special friends, Fred talk, read the word knowledge to segment real and alien words. We have also been doing Maths and Reading assessments where we've recalled all of our Year 1 knowledge this year. Miss Butt and Mrs Hatton are so proud of all the Year 1s, and they have earnt themselves a biscuit and juice party this afternoon. Well done!
Year 2:
Although it has been a scorching week, we have continued to work hard in Year 2! We are beginning to recap previous skills in Maths, starting with written methods of addition and subtraction. We are building up to our Hot Task in English and have story mapped our own version of 'Journey'.
The children have had some wonderful ideas and really let their imaginations run wild! We have also begun our History topic of 'Castles and Knights' and have started to look at the features of castles, as well as how they were effective in keeping the baddies out! We are continuing to learn about 'Animals and their Habitats' in Science, in particular how they have adapted to live in their environments. In RE, we have discussed what it is like to be part of a community, particularly the church community.
Year 3:
We would like to congratulate all the children who took part in their First Holy Communion on Saturday. Both classes were impeccable in their behaviour, responses, singing and attitude during this special sacrament. To reward them, and their classmates, we held a special party day for them following on from the Mass that they led on Thursday. In Maths, we have started a new topic in which we are working on pictograms and bar charts. In English, we have been writing a formal letter to our local MP, Kate Kniveton.
Year 4:
We have had rather a busy week this week. In Maths, we have been learning about angles and turns. We have been using mathematical vocabulary to describe turns. We are writing persuasively in English. Our aim is to persuade Mrs Sherratt to allow us to have a class pet. We will be writing her a persuasive letter next week, and we hope to be persuasive enough for Mrs Sherratt to agree. During Science, we used our knowledge of states of matter to investigate if something invisible can have a weight. We conducted an investigation using fizzy pop to see if the gas that makes it fizzy had a weight. Ask us how we conducted this investigation and what the results were. We found out all about Roman roads in history this week, and we played the recorders during music. In RE, we have looked in detail at Jesus' 'I am' statements and reflected on these. Next week is assessment week, where we will be showing off all the knowledge we have gained throughout Year 4 so far.
Year 5:
This week in Year 5 we have been learning about how to write a balanced argument. We have been learning the concept of presenting both sides of the argument and then come to a conclusion.
In Maths, we have been revising adding and subtracting decimals and multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. We have been revising the methods needed and how to apply them to word problems.
In RE, we have continued with our work about Pentecost. We have been learning about importance of the Holy Spirit in Scripture. We have thought about what they tell you about the Holy Spirit and how they make you feel about the gift of the Holy Spirit.
In History, we have been learning about the Bayeux Tapestry and its significance in History. We have also been digging deeper into the reasons as to why William the Conqueror was victorious in the Battle of Hastings.
In PE, we have been learning how to throw a beanbag like a shot put and, in rounders, we have been practising using the correct rules and correct equipment
