Nursery:
This week the nursery have started their new topic ‘Oh I do Like to Be Beside the Seaside’. We have shared our own life experiences of holidays, how we get there, where we stay and what we do and have listened to the story ‘The Train Ride’
In Maths, we have been looking at what comes before and after different numerals to 10. You could practise this looking at numbers at home, or on the way to school, and see if the children can say the number before and the number after.
Next week we will be looking at all the different creatures that live under the sea.
Reception:
This week we have been continuing our journey around Australia and have landed in the Daintree rainforest! We have been learning lots of facts about the rainforest and looking at some of the wonderful animals that live there. It has been lots of fun! In Maths, we have been ordering numbers to 20 and practising our quick recall of maths of numbers to 10. Next week we are excited to continue our learning all about Australia and comparing it to the UK.
Year 1:
This week we have continued our learning on 'Lost in the Toy Museum'. We have thought carefully about what a verb is and have produced some super sentences to include these. In Maths, we have considered carefully the difference between tens and ones and have compared numbers to see which is greater. Finally, we have worked closely to consider what it means to be a part of God's family. We thought about what the word 'Church' truly means and the different roles and responsibilities a Priest has.
Year 2:
This week we have been busy with our 'Castles and Knights' topic and learning about how poor people lived in Medieval times. We found out some really interesting - and sometimes yucky - facts! In Maths, we have revisited place value and partitioning and numbers in different ways. We are also focusing on our times tables over the next week. We have started to look at non-chronological reports in English and non-fiction writing. In RE, we learnt about the conversion of Saint Paul and how we can be more like him and follow Jesus.
Year 3:
Year 3 have been very busy this week taking their end of year assessments. The children applied themselves brilliantly and should be so proud of their efforts and progress this year. In Art, we have been researching Kurt Schwitters and have created a fact file all about him. In PE, we have been working on our rounders skills. Finally, we have held auditions for St Modwen's Got Talent and have chosen four finalists to represent Year 3 for this event.
Year 4:
This week has been assessment week, and we are extremely proud of the children's hard work and resilience during this time. We have had our auditions for St Modwens' Got Talent and it was lovely to see all the talent in Year 4 showcased. In RE, we have looked at the beliefs within the Apostles' Creed and, in History, we looked at Boudicca's' Rebellion and how it affected different people.
Next week, we will be writing our persuasive letter to Mrs Sherratt to try and persuade her to let us have a class fish and, in Maths, we are moving onto shape.
Year 5:
This week we have been studying negative numbers and looking at where in real life we use and encounter them. We will be continuing with this topic next week. We have also revised lots of our arithmetic methods in preparation for our assessments which have taken place this week. In English, we have been busy revisiting word classes and different types of punctuation. Next week, we will be preparing for our hot task, which is a piece of persuasive writing based around the Battle of Hastings. We also completed a workshop with Severn Trent Water which involved a practical activity that explored water usage and how we can be water savers. Ask your child for some tips! In Geography this week, we have studied ordinance survey maps in preparation for our school trip to the Peak District next week (Wednesday).
Year 6:
This week we have been practising our end of year production. Please help your children learn any lines that they have been given. In Maths, we have been planning our own Music festival: working out the costings and calculating how much profit could be made. In Geography, we have looked at how humans have harmed the Rainforest. We have started a new Science topic about fossils. In RE, we are looking at our Catholic Community. In PE, we have been practising tennis and playing rounders.
