Nursery:
'Commotion in the Ocean' has been our focus story this week. We have been finding out about all the different types of sea creatures there are and learning some fun facts.
In Maths, we are continuing to consolidate numbers to 5, making number sentences with groups of objects.
The children enjoyed exploring the rest of the early years unit as they got to meet their new teachers ready for September.
Reception:
Reception this week have been learning all about Aboriginal art and creating our own masterpieces. We have enjoyed practising our map skills to plan and create obstacle courses in the outdoor area. In RE, we have been learning all about Mass and enjoyed attending our first whole school Mass on Wednesday.
Year 1:
This week we have started our new story 'Toys in Space'. For our Cold Task we described a setting from Toy Story, the children demonstrated all the things they have learnt so far in Year 1 and really impressed both Mrs Hatton and Miss Butt. We have also started a new unit in Maths. We have been learning how to tell the time to the hour and to the half hour. Why not test your children at home and see if they can tell you the time! Finally, we have been discussing how the Bible is separated into the Old Testament and The New Testament. We have discussed how the New Testament tells us about Jesus and his followers' lives.
Year 2:
We have been busy completing our Hot Tasks about the Enchantress in English this week. We have also written them up and presented them neatly, and they look fabulous. Next week, we will be concentrating on punctuation and grammar. In Maths, we have done mini assessments to find out if there is anything we need to catch up on before moving to Y3. This will be what we will be focusing on next week, as well as times table practise. In RE, we have been looking a what happens in Mass and sequencing the order. Thank you to those who attended the Y2 and Y5 Mass last Sunday - it was a wonderful morning! We are also really excited about our trip to Tutbury Castle next week, and our Sports Day!
Year 3:
We have had a great week in Year 3! Our trip on Tuesday was so much fun, we walked along the towpaths of the Trent and Mersey Canal, helped work a lock with some kind adults in a barge, played at the park, played a canal-side bingo game and completed a seven-mile walk! It truly was a special geography field work experience. On Wednesday we celebrated the Feast Day of St Modwen, we celebrated Mass in the morning, met our new Year 4 teachers and then joined in with the talent show in the afternoon. Huge congratulations to Dougie, Jamie, Harry, Louis and Jacob who did Year 3 proud! On Friday we thoroughly enjoyed sports day, having lots of fun competing in the different events.
Year 4:
We have had an exciting week this week. We enjoyed meeting our new teachers and taking part in sports day, showing sportsmanship and support to our peers. In Maths, we have started looking at interpreting charts and in English we are writing an adventure story.
