Nursery:
This week we have been reading the story ‘Sharing a Shell’ by Julia Donaldson. See if they can tell you what happened in the story. The children have created some beautiful art work of sea life creatures from the story and also their own experiences of the seaside.
In Maths, we have been consolidating our learning comparing groups of objects, looking at which group has more and which group has fewer.
As we come towards the end of the nursery year we will be looking at Celebrations linked to our RE topic.
Reception:
This week Reception have been creating transition booklets so that our new teacher can learn all about us. The children have enjoyed showing off their wonderful writing skills. In Maths, we have been finding our way out of mazes using directional language and have enjoyed making our own mazes outside! In RE, we have been talking about the Mass and the children impressed us with how much they remembered from their first school Mass last week.
Year 1:
This week, Year 1 have been writing their setting description based on the text 'Toys in Space'. They thought really carefully about adjectives and how to make their work more interesting. We also looked at using capital letters correctly in our work. In Maths, we have been looking at Position and Direction, which has been a little tricky, but we have persevered and kept going. Why don't you try and give someone at home some directions to follow?
Year 2:
We have had an exciting week in Year 2 this week! First, we had our trip to Tutbury Castle on Monday which was amazing! We all had a tour around the grounds of the castle and our guide, Sue, told us all about the history behind the castle, including its famous residents! We also had a fantastic talk from two experts about how the castle was kept safe from invaders, some of us even had chance to hold swords, try on clothes and handle unusual artefacts used in medieval times.
On Tuesday, we had our sports day, where we were incredibly lucky that the rain held off for us! All the children performed brilliantly and showed exceptional team spirit. We have also continued to look at how Mass is conducted in RE and thought about our own bidding prayers. We are having a quick recap of fractions this week and next, as well as a recap on GPS in English.
Year 3:
This week we have been writing our own newspaper article all about the 'Black Rock', a mysterious island that causes many ships to sink. In Maths, we have continued our work on mass and volume, we will be putting our newfound weighing skills to good use next week. In RE, we have continued our work on prayer and have been thinking about the five different types of prayer that we use. In History, we have continued our work on the industrial revolution, learning all about the amazing inventions that appeared during this time.
Year 4:
We have completed our unit in maths interpreting data. We have used bar models and line graphs to represent data and can answer a variety of questions related to the date gathered. We have been extremely impressed with the adventure stories the children have written. Inverted commas, fronted adverbials and powerful vocabulary were some of the great skills used, along with a range of conjunctions. As part of our current RE topic, we had a visit from Father Arthur who spoke to us about his role and the responsibilities which come with that.
We are looking forward to our trip on Monday to The Think Tank in Birmingham. Don't forget your packed lunch!
Year 5:
This week, in Maths, we have been converting between imperial and metric measurements. Next week, we will be studying volume and revisiting long multiplication. In RE, we learnt about the early Church community and the story of Saint Stephen. In Reading, we finished our book - Kensuke's Kingdom. It was an emotional ending for everyone. We then used the medium of video to review our book. In Art, we looked at Hokusai and the Great Wave. We also visited Blessed Robert Sutton on Monday, where we had a wonderful glimpse of life in a secondary school and enjoyed all our lessons and meeting the school dogs! We also started the recruitment process for next academic year's Head Boy and Girl.
Year 6:
Year 6 have been at Whitemoor Lakes this week.
The children have had an amazing time! They have been climbing, walking, sailing, paddling, eating, footballing, running, chasing, catching, throwing, a bit of sleeping, more climbing, abseiling, swimming, more eating, problem-solving, hanging, jumping and so much more!
