What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
The children have just completed their first full week in nursery. Our focus has been to settle in, explore the indoor and outdoor environment and learn the routines.
Please can I take this opportunity to remind parents to label all clothing, including coats, wellies and water bottles. We look forward to the year ahead.
Reception:
This week reception have had a wonderful week exploring their new classroom, learning new routines and making friends. We have started our phonics lessons and the children have enjoyed learning to say the sound the letter makes. We have been so impressed with how quickly the children have settled into school and we are very proud of all of them.
Year 1:
We have started our new class text in English, 'The King's Pants'. We started the week off by learning what a cold task was. Then we impressed our teachers with our wonderful writing skills. In Maths, we have been sorting objects based on their colour, shape and size. We have also looked at how God created the world and in how many days. It was so much fun creating paper plate days for display.
Year 2:
This week we have started our topic of Explorers by looking at the book 'Poles Apart' by Jeanne Willis. We travelled across the world like the characters from our book, visiting places like New York, Venice, London, Antarctica and Australia. It was so much fun! In Geography, we learnt about the oceans of the world and learnt a great song to help us remember them. We have been using the practical equipment in Maths to help us to represent numbers to 100 in different ways.
Next week, we will be continuing our work on our book by exploring the story pattern and thinking about sentence structure. In Maths, we will be continuing our learning on place value and will be thinking about how to partition numbers in different ways.
Year 3:
We have had a lovely first full week back in year 3. In RE, we have been exploring what it means to belong to something and how it is important to belong to God's family as people of peace. In Maths, we have started our work on place value. In English, we have been working on the book 'Hike', exploring the use of adjectives within a sentence. In Reading, we are working on the book 'If all the World Were', and have been practising our reading skills based on this.
Year 4:
It has been lovely to see the children return to normal lessons this week with such enthusiasm and hard work. In Maths, we have been working on our place value, thinking about representing thousands and identifying them on a number line. In English, we have started reading the book 'Earthquake in the early morning'. We wrote a letter to one of the characters and we have also looked at using adjectives for effect. In RE, we began looking at the story of creation and thought about what we can do to look after God's creation in our every day lives.
Year 5:
This week we have started our new texts for English and Reading, 'Holes' and 'Kensuke's Kingdom'. All children are excited for the new texts and the learning ahead. In Maths, we have been revisiting place value and numbers up to 6 digits. The children loved our practical lessons this week and have grasped the new learning well.
In Geography, we have continued learning about Mexico and where it is located. In RE, we have started our unit about Creation and read scripture from the Bible. In PE, we started our new units of Bollywood dancing and Gaelic Football. Finally, we have learnt about Professor Sarah Gilbert in Science.
