What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
This week we have been learning the nursery rhymes ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ and ‘1,2,3,4,5 Once I Caught a Fiish Alive’. Learning rhymes enables children to become interested in the rhythm and patterns of language and, because they are repetitive, it can also support the development of memory. Why not try and sing along with the children at home?
In Maths, the children have been learning the colours - red, blue and yellow, sorting colours and completing some lovely collage work. Next week we will learn the secondary colours and a new nursery rhyme of the week.
Reception:
This week we have enjoyed being a part of drawing club, where we have been reading the story 'Not Now, Bernard'. The children have used their imagination to draw monsters, houses and a trap to catch the monster. We have then created our own codes to make magical things happen to our designs! The children have also been enjoying learning lots of new sounds in phonics.
Year 1:
This week Year 1 have been thinking about all the things God has created and why we are thankful for them. It was lovely to hear everyone's response to this. In English, we designed our very own pants based on our class text, 'The King's Pants'. We used lots of different materials to collage the pants, which will help us in our Hot Task when we describe them using lots of adjectives.
Year 2:
This week we have continued our work on Explorers by sequencing the story 'Poles Apart' by Jeanne Willis and identifying key ideas we can use in our own work. In Geography, we learnt about the coldest place in the world and looked at where it is on the globe. In Science, we looked at the offspring of animals and the different names they have. We have been using practical equipment in Maths to help us to partition numbers to 100 in different ways.
Next week, we will be continuing our work on our book by writing our own ideas and then producing some descriptive writing. In Maths, we will be learning how to place numbers onto a number line.
Year 3:
This week we have continued our work on 'Hike' in English, particularly focussing on using expanded noun phrases to add detail to our sentences. In Reading, we have been comparing 'If all the World Were' to Michael Rosen's 'Sad Book'. We have also used Michael Rosen as an inspiration on how to read a book with expression. In Science, we have started our topic on animals, including humans, focussing in on what a healthy diet should contain.
Year 4:
We have continued to build on our knowledge of place value this week. We have used number lines and estimating. In Science, we looked at what tooth decay is. We set up an investigation using eggshells to represent the enamel on our teeth to investigate the impact sugar has on our teeth. We looked at plate tectonics in Geography and used Oreos to represent the plates. In English, we have created a story map in preparation for our hot task. During RE, we looked in detail at the creation story. We have written a diary entry as God about the 6th day.
Year 5:
In Maths this week we have been rounding numbers up to 1,000,000 and solving problems relating to this. In English, we have continued reading the next chapter of Holes and discussing the main characters' thoughts and emotions. In Reading, we have been learning how to infer a character's emotions in different situations. In PE, we have learnt 4 more Bollywood dance moves in preparation for our own dance routine next week. In Science, we have started our new topic about animals, including humans, and in RE we have been comparing the creation stories from Genesis 1 and 2.
Year 6:
This week we have been busy with some baseline assessments so that we know what we need to work on during our Autumn term in Year 6. In English, we have continued with our narrative writing. In Geography, we looked at the Taj Mahal. In RE, we looked at Old Testament stories. In PE, we were developing defending skills and, in Science, we looked at the circulatory system.
