What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
We hope you all had a lovely half-term. Thank you for returning your autumn bags, you have been very busy finding lots of autumn treasures on your walk.
This week the children have been learning all about Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate 5th November. We have been making firework pictures, creating an outdoor bonfire and matching shapes and colours on rockets. In our Maths, we have been learning all about the number 1, how to represent 1 with our finger and that 1 object means that there is a total of 1.
We have ended our week by remembering all the soldiers who fought to protect our country. We were very proud of how quietly the children stood when taking part in the 2-minute silence at 11 o'clock.
Reception:
This week we have been learning all about Bonfire night and the celebration of Diwali. We have had a wonderful week using our art skills to create fireworks, diya lamps and rangoli patterns, it has been lots of fun! In Maths, we have been learning to spot and continue repeating patterns, as well as creating our own using lots of different objects around our classroom and outside.
Year 1:
In Year 1 we have started a new class text, 'Pip and Custard Fireworks'. We’ve really enjoyed learning about bonfire night and how dogs can get frightened of fireworks. In History, we started our new topic of the Gunpowder Plot and had a visit from some firefighters who spoke to us about Guy Fawkes. We even got to hear the sirens! In Science, we began learning about the different animal types and focused on mammals this week. We sorted the pictures of different mammals and matched them to their name.
Year 2:
This week, we have been continuing to look at addition in Maths, learning how to efficiently add three 1-digit numbers. In English, we wrote a scary story to begin our work on 'tales of fear' and we read our new book, before sequencing events. In Science, we looked at why exercise is good for us and learnt how to count our pulse. Our PE lesson involved working as a team to collect the 'pirate's treasure'!
Next week we will be looking at subtraction in Maths and, in History, we will be considering what life was like in the 17th Century.
Year 3:
We hope you all had a restful half-term break. This week in Year 3, we have continued our work in Maths on addition and subtraction, moving on to the formal column method. In English, we have started a new book called 'The Bear and the Piano'. We will be writing our own narrative based on this book. In RE, during our topic on reconciliation, we have been particularly focussing on the parable of the Prodigal Son. Please do not forget our first meeting for the children taking First Holy Communion this year is at church on the 21st November.
Year 4:
Welcome back after what we hope was a restful and enjoyable half-term break. We are thrilled with the positive attitudes the children have come back to school with and have had a brilliant week. Area has been our focus in Maths this week and, during history, we have started our work on WW1. During English, we focused on the poem 'Where the Poppies Now Grow.' We recited this poem and created our own inspired by it. In RE, we have focused this week on Mary and Martha as we continue our learning based on how Jesus teaches us how to pray. Please enjoy the activities on the new homework grid for this half-term.
