What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
This week, the children have been learning all about Advent, starting with dressing the classroom prayer area, learning a new morning prayer and learning about and making an advent wreath. We had a lovely Rolling Worship with Mrs Sherratt, where the children listened carefully and were very prayerful as they dressed the crib with the characters from the nativity. They will also be taking it in turns to bring home the Advent bag. Please support your child’s learning by sharing and talking about the resources in the bag.
Reception:
This week, reception have been learning all about Advent. During the first week of Advent we think about the word 'hope'. The children discussed what they are hoping for this Christmas.
We have been really impressed with the children's number work this week, as they secure their understanding of 4 and 5! We look forward to showcasing all our hard work that has gone into the preparations for our Nativity next week.
Year 1:
In Year 1 we really enjoyed writing from Guy Fawkes' point of view. We have practised using the personal pronoun 'I', ready for our Hot Task next week. In Maths, we have looked at 2D and 3D shapes and sorted them into groups. We have really enjoyed watching Dan and Emily's 'Open for Advent' and have decorated our classrooms accordingly. We have written beautiful Advent prayers and discussed the importance of Jesus' arrival.
Year 2:
This week, we have continued rehearsals for our Christmas performance, including our first dress rehearsal. In English, we have been writing different types of sentences, including questions and exclamation sentences. We have also started writing our hot task, a non-chronological report about The Great Fire of London. In Maths, we have been subtracting two 2-digit numbers, working in groups to practically solve calculations.
Next week, we will continue our hot task in English and in Maths we will be looking at missing number problems. Most exciting of all though, we will be starring in our Christmas play, and we cannot wait to show you all!
Year 3:
This week, we have continued to work on our timetables in Maths, particularly focussing on the 2s, 4s and 8s. In English, we have started researching the Himalayan mountain range, ready to write an information leaflet for our Hot Task. In Reading, we have started our new book called 'The Robin and the Reindeer'. In RE, we have excitedly started our new unit on Advent, focussing this week on the Advent wreath and the Jesse Tree.
Year 4:
We have been enjoying preparing for singing and spreading festive joy at the hospital. We have completed our hot tasks in English, discovered the story of King David and continued to develop our knowledge of multiplication this week. We spent some time in the prayer garden this week and enjoyed our class liturgies.
