What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
All the nursery staff would like to say a big, big thank you to all the parents and carers for attending the Christmas craft workshop. The children had a fabulous morning decorating biscuits, making cards and hats, Christmas tree pine cones, food for the reindeer and Santa faces. Everybody seemed to be going home with lots of goodies!
We wish you all a happy and holy Christmas and look forward to welcoming you back in the new year.
Reception:
This week reception have enjoyed learning more about Advent and have made wreaths using salt dough and pasta to represent the candles. On Wednesday we enjoyed watching KS2's rehearsal for their Carol Concert. We have thoroughly enjoyed completing Christmas crafts, singing songs and preparing for Christmas.
All the reception team wish you a very happy Christmas.
Year 1:
In Year 1, we have been finishing off our History topic of the Gunpowder Plot. We have learnt all about Guy Fawkes and how his plan to blow up the king failed. In Art, we've painted and imitated the Castle and Sun painting, using different brush strokes. We have worked so hard this term. Mrs Hatton and Miss Butt are proud of Y1 and wish you all a happy Christmas.
Year 2:
We have had a great week in Year 2. In Art, we created collages in the style of Matisse. They are bright and beautifully colourful. In RE, we thought about Advent and how we prepare for Christmas. In Reading, we finished our book and reflected on our big question, 'Does working together make us stronger?" The children had wonderful opinions to share. As we end the week, we are enjoying some festive moments, such as making Christmas cards.
We are looking forward to new topics when we return to school in the new year, looking at shape in Maths and exploring Africa in Geography.
We wish you all a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
Year 3:
This week we had a lovely walk down to the hospital to sing for the staff and patients. In English, we have written our detailed hot tasks; a non-fiction piece of writing about the Himalayan mountain range. In RE, we have been discussing the nativity story, particularly focussing on the angels' visits to Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph and the shepherds. We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Year 4:
We have all enjoyed spreading joy at the hospital with our singing over the past two Mondays. We have received many compliments about the children's singing and their behaviour was exemplary. We have put our knowledge of weight into practice this week and have made rice crispy cakes. During English, we have completed our hot task and did an excellent job of using paragraphs and a range of sentences, as well as correctly punctuated fronted adverbials. We proclaimed the coming of the Messiah in RE this week by using a scroll as well as a more modern approach. We concluded our work on WW1 by finding out how the war came to an end, and we discovered some of the dangers of environmental change in living things during science. Please encourage your child to access spelling shed and TTRockStars over the Christmas break and log any reading on Boom reader. Thank you to everyone for their support this term. We wish you all a Merry Christmas.
Year 5:
This week Year 5 continued with their fractions work, and we have started to break the whole when subtracting fractions. In RE, we have learnt about John the Baptist and his time in the wilderness. We have also created a booklet filled with ideas to help us prepare for Advent as John has called us to do.
We have also had a festive week preparing Christmas cards and practising for our Christmas Carol service. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope you have a restful break.
Year 6:
This week 6 we have created our own 'Windrush' newspaper reports. In RE, we looked at the prophecies of Isiah. We have made Snowmen, Christmas cards and Christmas bracelets. Many of us have taken part in the Carol concert. In Maths, we started to look at metric measures and will continue with this when we return after Christmas. HAPPY CHRISTMAS! Love from everyone in Year 6.
