What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
This week the children have been listening to the story 'The Three Little Pigs'. The children have taken on the roles of the different characters to support the retelling of the story. It's lovely to hear how they change the way their voice sounds if it's their turn to be the big bad wolf!
In Maths, we have been learning all about the composition of four and that, through play and exploration, we are beginning to understand that numbers are made up of smaller numbers.
Reception:
This week Reception have been enjoying reading The Three Little Pigs and acting it out using story language. We have written speech bubbles for the wolf and the little pigs and amazed our teachers with our phonic knowledge. In maths, we have been using Numicon to find different ways of making 8. In RE we have been thinking about our special name we are given at our Baptism and why it is so special.
Year 1:
In Year 1 we have been learning about the story 'Tidy'. We have looked at the vocabulary and deciding which ones to use in our hot task. We also put together a story map and actions. In Maths, we have been adding numbers within 20 and trying really hard to lay out the numbers in the squares.
Year 2:
This week we have finished exploring 2D and 3D shapes and started to learn how to count pounds and pence. In English, we looked at fact files to inform us about the features of this type of text. We also wrote a short passage about Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah, in preparation for creating our fact files next week. In Art, we created amazing, colourful pictures in the style of Tingatinga, they are truly impressive. We learnt about the scientist, Charles Macintosh, in Science and found out why a macintosh is named after him.
Next week we have our DT week. We will be designing and creating African safari vehicles. In Maths, we will be continuing our work with money. We will also be writing up our fact files in English.
Year 3:
This week we have been continuing our Maths work on length, working out different measurements in mm, cm and m. We will be using these skills next week to start thinking about perimeter. In English, we have been using our Geography knowledge of rivers to create a non-fiction text about the journey of a river. In Science, we have been learning about the water cycle and have created our own models to demonstrate this.
Year 4:
We are writing biographies in English. Our hot task will be about Roald Dahl, so we have completed research on his life. During RE, we spent time understanding the Nunc Dimittis and wrote our own prayers about Jesus the Light of the World.
Year 5:
This week in Maths, we have been studying bus-stop division. This requires sharp times tables, so please get practising at home. In RE, we looked at the symbols of baptism and we even role-played a baptism. In English, we have been building up our toolkit and learning about the features of survival guides. We have been practising our weekly spellings. Please encourage your child to practise spellings daily and to read every night. In Spanish, we have learnt about the rooms in a house. In Geography, we have been comparing New York and London. In Science, we learnt about the phases of the moon. Next week is DT project week!
