What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
This week the children have been learning all about Baptism, where they are given their name and welcomed into the family of God. They have taken part in role playing a baptism with the dolls, giving them a name and blessing them with water, as well as practising recognition and writing of their name. Thank you for sharing your photographs of this very special time, the children have thoroughly enjoyed seeing themselves up on the big screen and talking about their special day.
Reception:
Reception have had a wonderful week learning all about Chinese New Year. We have been learning all about the year of the dragon and discussing how Chinese New Year is celebrated. We finished the week by using the fans we created to join in with a fan dance.
Year 1:
In Year 1, we have been finishing our Hot Task, where we have written instructions on how to tidy the woods. We made sure we used exclamation marks and checked for capital letters and finger spaces. It's also been DT project week and we have been sewing hand puppets. It was really tricky but we kept going. They look ever so good! Check out some of our pictures on our school Facebook page. Mrs Hatton and Miss Butt hope you all have a lovely half term.
Year 2:
This week has been DT project week and we've really enjoyed designing and making our own African safari vehicles. We have also been continuing our learning about money in Maths. We were thinking about counting pounds and pence together. You could practise doing this over half-term when you go out shopping. In English, we wrote our own fact files about Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah. We loved learning about his amazing journey.
Year 3:
This week we have been enjoying our termly DT Topic, this time we have designed, cooked and eaten a curry, complete with home-made naan breads! In English, we have been using all of our knowledge from Geography about rivers to write a non-fiction report all about them. In Maths, we have been working out the perimeter of 2-D shapes and will be moving on to fractions next. In RE, we have been discussing the differences between baptism today and the baptism of Jesus. We have also started to think about the Easter story by beginning rehearsals for the Easter play.
Year 4:
This week was DT week and, in Year 4, we have made Greek sandals. This was a very tricky process but the children persevered and tried their best, despite the barriers along the way. We researched both modern day and ancient sandals, made paper patterns, then sewed dipryl to make our sandals. In English, we have written our Hot Task, which was a biography on Roald Dahl.
Year 5:
This week we have been writing a survival guide based on a natural disaster. We studied bus-stop division and multiplying fractions in Maths. When we return, we will be completing our termly assessments. In Reading, we have continued to explore Cosmic and the situations the characters find themselves in. In RE, we have been studying the Parables of Jesus and exploring the message they tell us. It has been DT week and we have been busy constructing our moon buggies. Mr Quinn and Mrs Lodge have been very impressed with the problem solving and resilience on show when completing this task. In PE, we had our final OAA session this week and the improvement from the start of the term until now has been phenomenal. Mr Quinn and Mrs Lodge would like to say well done for all the pupils' hard work this half-term. Sadly, we say goodbye to Mrs Lodge as she moves on to her next adventure. We would like to wish her all the best for the future. She will be missed here at St. Modwen's. Enjoy your half-term!
Year 6:
This week we have been continuing to read from 'Tales of Terror'. In English, we have started to research and draft paragraphs about South America and its global trading and economic problems. In Maths, we have started to revise area and perimeter. In RE, we looked at the gifts of the Holy Spirit. In Art, we finished our Archimboldo inspired portraits. Our DT project this week was bread making. In Science, we looked at circuit diagrams and created our own.
