What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
This week we have been reading 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle. The children are learning to sequence the days of the week and recalling what the caterpillar ate each day. In Maths, we have continued our learning of the number 5 and we are becoming aware that, sometimes, more than two numbers can make up 5. We have been very creative making our own very hungry caterpillars to support our learning of the lifecycle of a butterfly next week.
Reception:
This week reception have had a fantastic time exploring all things Spring including spotting spring wildlife in the outside area, listening for new sounds of the seasons or writing about spring scenes. They have also enjoyed listening to Dan and Emily on the One Life Music videos as we journey through Lent this year.
Year 1:
In Year 1, we have started a new class text, Vlad and the Florence Nightingale Adventure. We have looked at the different vocabulary in the text and discussed what they mean. In History, we began our topic of Significant People and looked at how Florence Nightingale cleaned the hospitals when they were dirty. We really enjoyed learning about the wonderful things she did. We have been working really hard in Maths, where we have been solving missing number problems.
Year 2:
In Year 2, we have had assessment week. A big well done to the children for their focus and work. Our PE lesson was great fun this week, we danced to show emotions. In RE, we learned about Lent and explored forgiveness, thinking about how we could live our lives to be more like Jesus. In Geography, we completed our unit by considering how we can help people living in poverty in Africa.
Next week, we will be starting our new text in English. In Science, we will be doing an experiment linked to our learning around materials and, in History, we will be starting our new unit, Movers and Shakers, by looking at Neil Armstrong.
Year 3:
This week we have started our journey into Lent by enjoying 'Open for Lent' with Dan and Emily, and by discussing what we are sacrificing during this period. We have also been busy rehearsing for the Easter play and held our second meeting for the children taking First Holy Communion in church.
We have been working hard on our spring-term assessments in English and Maths. In Maths lessons we have begun our unit on fractions and, in English, we will be looking in detail at how to use inverted commas for direct speech.
Year 4:
We are incredibly proud of all of the children in Year 4 this week. They have shown great resilience and determination as we have completed our assessment week. We have started our rehearsals for our Easter Play and the children have worked hard to learn their lines. Please make sure that you are learning your lines off-by-heart. In RE, we have explored the story of Moses. We have reminded ourselves of our Lenten promises. Please make sure that you are using BOOM reader, spelling shed and TTRockStars regularly.
