What we have been learning this week.....
Reception:
This week reception have been reading the story 'Little Bear's Spring'. We have enjoyed following the little bear cub on his journey from winter to spring and identifying all the different signs of spring within the story. In Maths we have been learning all about numbers 9 and 10. The children have been amazing us with their maths knowledge and recall of some number facts. In RE we learnt about Jesus helping the blind man and we have thought about how we can help others during Lent.
Year 1:
In year 1, we have worked hard because it has been Assessment week. We have been using our existing knowledge to complete Maths and Reading papers. It has been hard, but we gave it a really good go. Mrs Hatton and Miss Butt are so proud.
Year 2:
This week, we have had lots of fun! On Thursday we had some visitors from St Modwen Homes, they talked to us about building houses. We then worked in groups to build houses that needed to be strong enough to stand up against the Big Bad Wolf. We have also been learning a new dance in our PE sessions. In RE, we have been thinking about forgiveness and learnt a new parable that taught us the importance of showing forgiveness and mercy.
Next week, we are learning about multiplication and division. We will also be writing our own quest story.
Year 3:
This week we have been busy working on fractions in Maths, talking about unit and non-unit fractions. In English, we have started our new book called 'Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx', where we are specifically working on using adjectives, conjunctions and inverted commas in our writing. In Reading, we have started another new book; a graphic novel about the Easter story called 'The Third Day'. The children taking their First Holy Communion were excellent and reverent during their first reconciliation service. In History, we have started our new topic on Ancient Egypt, which we are all very excited about.
Year 4:
We have started our new English unit on Hercules. We have received some scrolls from Hercules, asking us to do tasks for him whilst considering what English knowledge we already know and applying this. In Maths, we have finished our unit on measurement, perimeter in particular. In RE, we have reflected again upon our Lenten promises and how we can resist temptation, just like Jesus did in the desert. In History, we learnt about how the Ancient Greek empire was established.
Year 5:
This week we have started our new text in English, 'Beowulf'. In Maths, we have finished multiplying fractions and moved onto equivalent fractions and decimals. In RE, we have been thinking about the consequences of giving into temptations. In Reading,we have continued with Cosmic and, in History, we have been learning about why the Vikings invaded Britain. In PE, we have continued with our gymnastics and handball units. In Science, we have investigated different forces and, in Spanish, we have continued to learn about the solar system.
Year 6:
We have started to look at historical narrative writing with 'Street Child'. In Reading, we are approaching the end of our 'Tales of Terror' book. In Maths, we looked at Ratio. In Science, we looked at light and, in Geography, we looked at how Global trade affects us. In RE, we looked at what the bible says about 'forgiveness' and, in PSHE, we looked at body image. In Art, we looked at William Morris and symmetry. In PE, we did street dancing and throwing.
