What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
Continuing with our theme of the days of the week, we have been sequencing the story 'Jasper's Beanstalk', talking about what happened each day. We are also watching very carefully the changes to the beans we planted last week. Let's hope they grow to be as tall as Jasper's!
In Maths, we have been using descriptive words e.g. long, longer, longest, short, shorter, shortest, tall, taller and tallest to describe the length and height of ourselves, caterpillars and beanstalks. Ask your children to give examples of those describing objects around the home and garden.
Reception:
We have been learning all about how plants grow and how we can take care of them. In Maths, we have been learning our bonds to ten and using these facts to solve problems! In RE, we have been learning about the importance of saying, 'Sorry' during Lent and thinking about the important symbols of Lent.
Year 1:
We have been learning all about tens and ones in Maths. We looked at different representations and what number to write in the part whole model to represent the images. In RE, we have been learning all about Palm Sunday. We learnt that Jesus rode his donkey into Jerusalem and the crowd shouted, "Hosanna!" We hope all our beautiful mothers had a lovely Mother's day on Sunday.
Year 2:
We have finished learning about money and moved onto our new Maths unit. We have been looking at equal groups and counting them, as we are introduced to multiplication. In English, we wrote a plan and used this to create a quest story, set in space. In History, we learned what Christopher Columbus did and, in Reading, we have been enjoying 'The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark'. On Thursday, we enjoyed a range of activities to celebrate World Book Day. A big thank you for supporting the children with decorating plates; they are brilliantly creative.
Next week, in English, we will begin our next text. In Maths, we will be taking more steps towards learning multiplication. In PE, we will be dancing using the idea of a clockface to coordinate our steps. In Art, we will be creating our own Warhol-inspired painting, using one of the printing techniques we have learnt.
Year 3:
We were very excited to start our new topic in History, all about Ancient Egypt. We have started by looking at what life was like back then. In Maths, we have continued our work on fractions. In English, we have been working hard on the correct use of inverted commas, using direct speech in our writing. In PE, we have been practising our athletics skills, particularly focussing on jumping and long-distance running. We thoroughly enjoyed World Book Day too, taking part in quizzes and live lessons.
Year 4:
We have received more scrolls from Hercules containing tasks linked to his labours. We have written diary entries as Hercules. In Maths, we are exploring fractions. We created circuits in Science and investigated materials to see if they were conductors or insulators. We are still working hard on perfecting our Easter Play; please ensure all lines are now learnt by heart. We thoroughly enjoyed our World Book Day activities. Thank you and well done to everyone who created a paper plate.
Year 5:
In Year 5, we have been planning our quest story based upon the legendary story of Beowulf. In Maths, we have been converting between decimals and fractions and will be studying percentages next week. In Reading, we are nearing the end of our book - 'Cosmic' and have been exploring how the characters' relationships and feelings towards each other change over the course of the story. In RE, we have been learning about the Sacrament of Reconciliation and how it is linked with Lent. In Science, we have been exploring levers, gears and pulleys. In History, we compared the lives of the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings.
Year 6:
We have had our last assessment week before SATs. We have practised Grammar, Punctuation, Spelling, Reading and Arithmetic. Next week, we will complete the Maths papers. Booster Sessions have also started this week. In English, we have started to write diary entries in the first person from the point of view of a Victorian street child. In RE, we have looked at forgiveness during Lent. In Dance, we are continuing with Street Style.
