What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
We have started the week by revisiting the Easter story. The children have made Easter cards and engaged in activities to celebrate Easter. We have listened to the story 'We're going on an Egg Hunt' using positional language to describe where the eggs are hiding. In Maths, we have been sequencing real life events, stories and rhymes using the words - first, at the beginning, next, then, finally, in the end.
Reception:
This week, Reception had a brilliant time exploring numbers to 20! We have been learning to count to 20, recognise the numeral and also represent the numbers in different ways using pictures and objects. We have also been continuing our learning all about Easter and have been reflecting on how Jesus' friends must have felt. Next week we will be starting our farm topic, and we will be learning about why farms are important and the different jobs a farmer does. We will also be learning about maps and drawing our own maps of the classroom and outdoor area.
Year 1:
In Year 1, we have been planting sunflower seeds in Science. We learnt the steps to plant a seed and then wrote a set of instructions to follow. In English, we have started our new class text, 'Jehvon goes to Jamaica'. We have learnt about all the different things Jamaica has, including sugar canes, mangos and a very hot climate.
Year 2:
What a wonderful start to the summer term we have had! In English, we have started looking at a new text, 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley'. We enjoyed reading the book, picking out exciting vocabulary from it and text mapping the story. In Maths, we have been continuing to look at multiplication and have been applying our multiplication knowledge to double and half numbers. We have also started to learn about living things in Science and had a great discussion in class about whether something is living, dead or has never been alive.
Next week, we will be learning about division in Maths and will be exploring our English text in more detail.
Year 3:
It has been lovely to welcome the children back after the Easter Break. We have started our new book 'The Green Ship' in reading and have predicted what might happen in the story. In History, we have been continuing our unit on Ancient Egypt, looking particularly at the importance of the River Nile and learning about some different Pharaohs. In Maths, we have started our new topic on telling the time using an analogue clock, please keep practising this at home.
Year 4:
Happy Easter to you all. Welcome to the summer term. This week, we have written our final labour for Hercules. We used a great variety of skills in our toolbox such as speech, paragraphs and correctly punctuated, fronted adverbials. We are continuing to focus on our use of a wide range of conjunctions. We have been investigating fractions in Maths this week. Ask us what an equivalent fraction is, as well as an integer and we will happily explain using sentence stems. We looked at different gospel accounts of the Easter story this week and compared the similarities and differences in these accounts. During Art, we explored the artist Leonardo Di Vinci and looked in detail at the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.
We are continuing to work on our times table knowledge up to 12x12. Please use timestables.co.uk to help support this learning. The times tables check will be in Summer 2 (after half term).
Year 5:
This week, in Maths, we have finished our percentages topic and carried out some Maths journaling. We then started our shape topic by learning about area and perimeter. In English, we finished our Hot Task and then learned about the Anglo-Saxon poetry style - Kennings. We then wrote our own Kennings about a variety of topics, including Vikings. In RE, we have been looking at the links between the Passover Meal, the Last Supper and Holy Communion. In Science, we built and tested our own parachutes to explore how surface area impacts air resistance. In Art, we started our Monet topic by learning all about the artist. In Reading, we have been exploring the use of language in the classic poem - 'The Highway Man'.
