What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
This week in Nursery we have been learning about bears. We have looked at different types of bears, where they live and what they eat. Our story is 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt’, by Michael Rosen, where the family in the story go in search of a bear. The children are very excited to find out what happens next in the story!
In RSE, the children have been learning about the internet, how we use it and how it helps us to do lots of great things. We also looked at examples of what we can do without the internet, such as playing outside, going swimming, playing board games, etc. As with all things, we need to be careful how much we use the internet and what we use it for.
In Maths, we have been talking about positional language, e.g. on, under, in front, behind, next to, beside, and inside and outside, demonstrating this using teddy bears.
Reception:
This week Reception started learning all about farms. We have been thinking about the different animals we would see on the farm and the different roles of the farmer. We are very excited about going to The Adventure Farm next Wednesday. The children have also impressed us this week in Maths, where we have been finding the double of numbers to 10. In RE, we looked at the Easter candle and talked about its symbols.
Year 1:
In Year 1 we went on an amazing adventure to Jamaica. We learnt all about the weather and thought about the things to pack in our suitcase. We packed sunglasses, sun cream and our shorts. We knew it was going to be hot. In English, we have been learning all about the suffix -ed. We thought really carefully about the way it was pronounced.
Year 2:
This week, we have really enjoyed exploring 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley'. We also looked at different ways to start our story to engage the reader, editing our own work to see how effective it can be. In Maths, we grouped items and learnt how to write these as division expressions. In Art, we practised using different colours on a paint program to create pictures. In History, we finished our unit on Movers and Shakers by discussing how the significant people we learnt about helped us to live together in a community. We also had an exciting visit from RNLI to teach us about water safety.
Next week, we will be planning a warning story in English. We will be continuing to learn about division in Maths. We will be starting our unit on beaches and coastlines in Geography.
Year 3:
In Year 3, this week, we have continued our Maths work on telling the time. We have looked particularly at converting analogue times to digital, please keep practising at home. In English, we are building up our sentence starters and interesting vocabulary ready to write a hot task about a magical object. In Science, we have started our topic on forces, looking at friction. In PE, we have enjoyed tennis lessons with a specialist coach from Church Broughton Tennis Club. In RE, we are working on our unit of Easter, we have looked at two occasions where Jesus appeared to the disciples after his resurrection.
Year 4:
In Maths this week we have finished our final unit on fractions, including adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. In English, we have been researching Venice ready for our hot task. In science, we have been investigating how sound travels and how we can improve sound over distance. We have also been practicing our times tables as we prepare for our multiplication check next half term. Please try to practice as much as possible with your child over the next few weeks using timestables.co.uk.

This week we have been doing lots of character analysis on 'The Highway Man'. In English, we have researched Ernest Shackleton and his voyage to the Antarctic. We then wrote CVs to apply for a position in his crew! In Maths, we have studied area and perimeter and also looked at line graphs. Next week, we will be measuring angles.
