Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

It has been a wonderful week in school, highlighted by our very successful Open Day for prospective parents of Early Years Nursery and Reception pupils joining us in September 2026.  If you know of any friends or family currently looking for a school place, please do encourage them to get in touch so we can arrange a tour of our lovely school.  I also ask that you keep our Year 6 pupils in your prayers as they take their first steps towards receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation later this year, beginning with their Enrolment Mass on 30th November.  Looking ahead, Wednesday 4th is Christmas Dinner Day - an occasion I look forward to each year as our wonderful cook, Mrs Cooper, always takes such great care of us all.  Please ensure that your child's School Meal account on ParentMail has sufficient funds if you would like them to enjoy a Christmas dinner.  We are also excited to welcome Reception and Nursery parents into school for the EYFS Nativity and Carols on 2nd and 4th December.  For further festive dates, please refer to the school calendar, and if you require any additional tickets beyond parent tickets, do contact the office on 01283 247560 to make the necessary arrangements where possible.

I wish you all the best as we head into the season of Advent!

What we have been learning this week ...

Nursery:

This week we have been listening to the story 'Monkey Puzzle' by Julia Donaldson. We have drawn a story map to help recall what happened. A story map focuses on the characters as we talk about the beginning, middle, and end of the story.

In maths the children have been learning about patterns. A pattern is a series of colours or objects that is repeated more than one time. This can include making patterns with objects of natural materials, numbers, shapes and more. For example, a pattern of colours could be yellow, red, yellow, red, yellow, etc. Why not have a go by using colours or any objects you might have around your home or even with fruit and vegetables by alternating oranges and apples,  or carrots and potatoes!

Reception

This week, we have been working really hard practising our Christmas Nativity. We’re really excited for you to come and see it next week. We have started learning about Antarctica and discovering what animals live there. In Maths, we have been exploring shapes with 4 sides and which shapes do not have 4 sides.

Year 1:

This week in Year 1, we have been learning all about the features of a diary. The children have even had a go at writing their own entries for our Cold Task. Later in the unit, they will be pretending to be Guy Fawkes, using everything they have learned in History to write a diary from his point of view—an exciting challenge!

In Maths, we have been practising subtraction using number lines and practical equipment to help us prove our answers and explain our thinking.

In RE, we enjoyed a walk around our school grounds to thank God for all the wonderful things He has given us. We also reflected on why it is important to show gratitude.

Year 2:

In year 2 this week we have continued our unit on addition and subtraction. We have been comparing number sentences, finding missing numbers and problem solving. In English, we have started a new book - The Great Fire of London. We have story mapped the main timeline of the Great Fire of London and practiced writing exclamation sentences. In RE, we looked at Saint Paul and thought about what kind of a person he was before and after his conversion. We then wrote a letter to another class to tell them what we learnt about Saint Paul and what we should do to follow Jesus' teachings.

Year 3:

Year 3 have had a great week exploring our new text 'How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth' - they have thoroughly enjoyed using it to think about how they could write their own instructions in the coming weeks! In maths, we have continued to consolidate our knowledge of numbers to 100 and think about how we can use different methods to solve problems. In  Science, we have explored the different diets that animals have and in History the children showed great enthusiasm when exploring The Stone, Bronze and Iron Age.

Year 3/4:

This week, we have been looking at patterns in the 3,6 and 9 times tables. We have also been looking at factor pairs. We will be looking at division next week. Please remember to keep learning the KIRF statements - especially the time ones and learning your times tables.  In English, we have completed our Newspaper Hot Task and were very impressed at the enthusiastic and talented journalist we have in our class. In RE, Year 4 have continued learning about people being called by God. Year 3 /4 have been learning about Reconciliation.  In History, we created a fact-file on William Coltman. In addition, we have been celebrating British Values as it is UK Parliament Week and singing carols in preparation for our community outreach concerts in two weeks time. Please contact the school office or speak to Mr Read or Mr Quinn if you wish to volunteer to help at these events.

Year 5:

Year 5 have had a great week and have worked incredibly hard. In Maths, we have continued with our fractions unit. In English, we have finished our hot task stories about rags to riches. Which have been great to read! In Reading, we are looking at our new poetry text The Highwayman. In RE,  we continue to look at Parables and sayings of Jesus and we think about how we can apply these teachings to our daily life. In Science, we looked at reversible changes  and irreversible changes. In History, we learnt about what happened at Fauld during WW2. In PE, we continue with our indoor yoga lessons and outdoor netball lessons.

Year 6:

In Year 6 this week we have finished writing our Hot Tasks about the Empire Windrush. In Maths, we have finished fractions and are now looking at percentages and decimals. In RE, we have started our Advent unit. In History we looked at immigration after the war and how people from Jamaica helped rebuild Britain. In PE we continued with Basketball and in PSHE we looked at why we might get spots and the importance of sleep and hygiene. For our Parliament activity, we looked at what Council Tax is and how we might spend taxes.
