12/12/2025 School Newsletter

                                          Friday 12th December 2025

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

It’s been lovely welcoming so many of you into school over the past couple of weeks for our Christmas events - the nativities, carol concerts and everything in between.  Our Year 3 and 4 children had a wonderful time singing at the hospital, and we’ve already received some really kind feedback from staff, patients and visitors about how much their visit meant.  This afternoon is our PTA Christmas Fayre, and I’d like to say a big thank you to all the parent and staff volunteers who have worked so hard to make it a success.  Thank you as well for your generous donations for the reverse advent calendar; these have now been collected and will be taken to the Father Hudson’s Care collection point to support families in need this Christmas.

As we head into the final week of term, just a reminder that we break up at the usual time next Friday, and children return to school on 6th January 2026.

Wishing you a lovely weekend as we approach the third Sunday of Advent.

What we have been learning this week ...

Nursery:

This week the children have continued to learn about Advent as we light the second candle of PEACE.  To support recall of the Nativity story, the children have been taking it in turns to be one of the characters and acting out the story through role play, as well as using smallworld characters in our liturgies.  In Maths, the children have been consolidating their learning of subitising groups of up to three objects, numbers 1 and 2 and also ABC patterns.  An ABC pattern can be three different shapes, colours, etc. that repeats over and over again.

Reception

This week, we have been reading 'Ella's Night Light' and thought about the special things Ella did for her friends.  We wrote CVC words and captions in English using our Phonics knowledge.  Some of us even used our Special Friends too!  In Maths, we have been exploring shapes with 4 sides as well as what happens in the day and night.

Year 1:

Year 1 have had an incredibly busy and productive week!  The children performed wonderfully in their nativity play, putting on a delightful show that helped everyone reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.  In Mathematics, we have been busy mastering the use of number lines to confidently solve both addition and subtraction problems.  Meanwhile, in English, the children demonstrated impressive creativity and historical understanding during their "hot task," where they wrote an engaging diary entry from the unique perspective of Guy Fawkes.  It has been a week filled with festive cheer and excellent work!

Year 2:

We are super proud of all of year 2 for their super resilience during our Nativity plays this week.  All of the children have worked super hard and it has definitely paid off!  In Maths this week, we have been focussing on shape - counting sides and vertices and drawing 2D shapes.  In English, we have written our Hot Task - A diary entry from Thomas Farriner about the Great Fire of London.  We focussed on using the correct features of a diary entry and capital letters for Days of the week and Months.  In RE, we have story mapped the story of Zechariah.

Year 3:

Year 3 have had a super week this week!  In English, they have completed their hot task of instructions all about how to wash a woolly mammoth and, in Maths, they have looked at grouping and sharing as a way of dividing numbers.   In Science, we have thought about how we can reduce food waste and, in RE, they learnt all about the Jesse tree.  The highlight of our week has been performing our Christmas carols for parents at school and also at the hospital - the children put so much effort in and they were all fantastic!

Year 3/4:

This week has been very busy spreading Christmas cheer.  We performed carols at Abacus Care Home on Wednesday, which was very well received and appreciated by the residents and staff.  We also performed carols at the hospital on Thursday and performed for parents on Wednesday afternoon.  In English, we have been writing our hot task, which is based upon the Christmas Truce of 1914. In Maths, we have been studying area in Year 3 / 4 and division in Year 4.  We have enjoyed learning about Jesus' ancestors and making our own Jesse Tree in RE.

Year 6:

This week in RE, we have written our own advent hymns and prayers.  In English we have started researching for our Biographical writing task.  In Maths, we have been linking percentages to fractions.  In Reading, we have been practising answering questions about how authors create impressions.  We have also been practising for our carol concert.  Some of us also had reconciliation this week as we continue on our journey as confirmation candidates.
