Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to this week’s newsletter!

As we look to commence a shiny new term, I wish to reflect on the lead-up to Christmas, which was a particularly special time, with many festive events and some truly lovely performances from the children.  It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers able to attend and celebrate these moments with us – your encouragement and involvement mean a great deal to the children and staff alike.  I wish to extend my thanks for the many kind words in cards and gifts that the staff and I received at the end of term.  I am incredibly grateful for your support.

As we start to think about our return to school, a gentle reminder of the importance of maintaining our high standards for presentation and school uniform, helping everyone to feel proud, ready to learn and part of our school community.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a happy and healthy New Year, and I look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Tuesday 6th January for an exciting Spring Term.

What we have been learning leading up to Christmas .....

Nursery:

On behalf of myself and all the nursery staff, we would just like to say a big, big thank you to all the parents and carers for their support this term.

Wishing you all a happy and holy Christmas, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the new year.

Reception

In Reception, we made a Christmas card for our family.  We chose to make an angel and enjoyed using the glitter and paint to make it sparkly.  In Maths, we have consolidated our learning around shapes with 4 sides and explored our morning and evening routine.  Mrs Hatton assessed our Phonics this week and every one of us has made such wonderful progress.  It has definitely been a busy term in Reception, but Miss Butt and Miss Mallinson are extremely proud of everyone for working so hard and doing their best.  We hope eveyone has a lovely Christmas and a well-deserved break.

See you all in the new year!

Year 1:

We have been busy exploring the world of shapes!

The children had a fantastic time naming, describing, and sorting various 2D and 3D shapes.  To continue this learning journey at home, perhaps you could go on a "shape hunt" around your house or local area?  See what different shapes you can spot together!

In RE, the children showed wonderful reflection as we started preparing for Christmas.  The children also thoughtfully composed their own Advent prayers, asking God for help to prepare our hearts during this special season.  We all thoroughly enjoyed participating in our recent Liturgy focused on the joy candle (the pink candle) on our Advent wreath, reflecting on the happiness that the Christmas story brings.

Year 2:

In Maths, we have completed our unit on shape by counting edges, faces and vertices as well as sorting shapes and making patterns with both 2D and 3D shapes.  In English, we have been adding suffixes to root words and using commas in a list to think about what is in Santa's sack.  In RE, we thought about John the Baptist baptising Jesus and also how we prepare for the coming of Jesus during Advent.  We hope you have a restful Christmas with your family, and we look forward to seeing you in January.

Year 3:

Year 3 had a wonderful last week of term!  In Reading, we have continued our text, The Iron Man, which the children are really enjoying and, in Maths, we have completed exploring the 3-times table.  In RE, we have thought about how we can show care for others and welcome Jesus into our lives during Advent.  The children thoroughly enjoyed our Stay and Pray Liturgy session, as well as joining in with a livestream Christmas carol event.  The children have all worked so hard this term, we wish you all a very Happy Christmas!

Year 3/4:

We have been busy, as always.  In Maths, we studied multiplying by 10 and 100.  We also did some revision of addition and subtraction by solving Christmas puzzles.  In RE, we learnt about the scripture from the Old Testament which proclaims Jesus' coming.  Year 4 have been busy spreading Christmas cheer visiting a local care home to sing carols and even visited some patients at the wards in the hospital.  Have a wonderful Christmas.

Year 5:

Year 5 have had a great last week at school. In Maths, we continued with multiplying 2-digit numbers by 4-digit numbers.  In English, we finished our newspaper reports, which were great to read.  In Reading, we have finished reading The Highwayman poem, and we will move onto reading Cosmic after Christmas.  In Science, we learnt about how we could reduce plastic pollution and how we could better our environment.  In RE, we continued learning about John the Baptist, how important his message is and how he helps us prepare for the second coming of Jesus.  To end the week, year 5 have had a day full of festive fun!

We hope you all have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Year 6:

This week we have been busy finishing our Hot Task Biographies in English.  In Maths, we have finished our Fractions, Decimals and Percentages Unit.  In Reading, we have made predictions about what is going to happen next in BrightStorm.  In RE, we have looked at how the The Old Testament and New Testament are linked together with Malachi's prophecy and the foretelling of John's birth.  In History, we have looked at how the NHS has changed people's lives.  We have also been making Penguins to raise money for new books for our classroom libraries and CAFOD.  We had our amazing Christmas Carol Concert on Wednesday - thanks to everyone who attended.

The staff in Year 6 would like to take this opportunity to wish all our parents and carers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year full of God's Blessings.
