We would love to share with you what has been happening in school this week. Please read below to find out what each year group has been learning .....
Reception
This week Reception have been discussing our feelings and emotions. We have read the books 'The Lion Inside' to talk about times we have felt worried or scared and times we have been brave and children have enjoyed using their art skills to decorate lions and mice. In RE, we have started our creation topic, learning all about all the things that God created. The children have enjoyed their first phonic lessons and have already been practising writing the sounds that they have learnt.
Year 1:
In Year 1, we have been reading our new class text 'Beegu' and have started to box up the story. We are really trying hard to write using our phonics and remembering finger spaces, capital letters and full stops. In RE, we have been learning all about St Francis and how he cared for all of God's creations. We used oil pastels to create a piece of artwork and also wrote sentences about him.
Year 2:
This week we started our topic of Explorers in Geography. We enjoyed learning about the North and South Poles and what the climates of those places are like. In RE, we thought about the story of Daniel and the Lion's Den and how Daniel showed courage and bravery. We thought about what it means to be brave and how we can inspire others to show bravery.
Year 3:
This week, we have begun putting words to the wordless picture book, 'Hike', that we have been studying in English. In Maths, we continue to cement and dig deeper into our understanding of place value and number. In our Geography work this week, we have used a range of atlases and digital maps to explore the country of India and its vast array of landscapes. We also began developing our artistic techniques as we study and try to replicate some of the work of Indian artist Anupam Sud.
Year 4:
This week in Geography, we have continued with our topic on earthquakes by making our own seismograph and replicating an earthquake to investigate what the trace would look like. In English, we wrote a diary entry, using our knowledge from Geography to write about what it would be like to experience an earthquake. We also really enjoyed learning about the different teeth we have and what the function of each tooth is.
Year 5:
This week we have studied rounding in Maths and did our second Maths journal entry - they are looking brilliant. We also learned how to play Find the Rabbit, which is a quickfire mental maths and place value game. It was very popular in Year 5! In English, we have been story mapping the story of the curse in Holes. We have then innovated and came up with our own ideas and are all planned up ready to write a super narrative next week. In Reading, we have been exploring what modern day items or events the Greek Gods would find very confusing. In RE, we learned about Saint Francis and his Canticle of Creation and have even written our own! In PE, we continued to develop our football and dance skills. In Art, we studied Frida Kahlo and in Geography, we learnt about what it would be like to live in Mexico.
Year 6:
This week we have been doing some assessments in reading, maths and GPS. The children have worked hard and done their best in all these tests, which means they are already adopting a great attitude towards year 6 expectations. WELL DONE EVERYONE! We also continued with music - where we learnt a new song. In Science, we looked at how the heart works. In PE, we continued to develop skills in Netball and Hockey. In Geography, we tasted some food from Mexico. In RE, we looked at how the followers of Moses felt during their time in the wilderness.
