We would love to share with you what has been happening in school this week. Please read below to find out what each year group has been learning .....
Reception
We have been reading 'Owl Babies' and learning all about owls. We watched a video of the owls hatching out of their eggs and looked at how they change as they grow. We are really enjoying our phonics lessons and hope you are enjoying watching the videos at home! In Maths, we have been comparing objects by size using the vocab shorter/taller and longest/shortest.
Year 1:
We began making our final sculpture piece of The Malt Shovel. We used modelling clay and different tools to sculpt it. Next week we are going to paint it silver to resemble the real thing. In RE, we have moved onto learning about Harvest in our Families and Celebrations unit. We wrote a thank you prayer to God to thank him for all the food we have.
Year 2:
It has been another busy week for Year 2! We have continued working on our 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables in Maths and have worked in teams and groups to support each other. We are delving further into the North and South Pole, and the bravery of Roald Amundsen in being the first person to reach both. In Science, we are continuing to look at staying healthy in our diet and exercise and the importance of eating healthily, and just how fortunate we are to be able to have access to regular meals.
This week our English text is 'Lost and Found' so we have been thinking about our experiences of feeling lost, and how to help someone or ourselves less fortunate who may need some guidance. We have been reading and writing our own psalms in RE, discussing and exploring the ways in which God helps and supports us every day.
Year 3:
This week the children have begun a sequence of learning in English around the traditional tale, 'Little Red Riding Hood'. As well as reading the classic story, we have also explored a range of versions with exciting twists in preparation for us to write our own! In Maths, it has been brilliant to see the children putting their place value and number skills to good use in difficult problem-solving tasks and, in Art, the children have begun some printing inspired by Indian artist Anupam Sud.
Year 4:
In English, we have written non-chronological reports about earthquakes. We used a range of skills to create these reports and we know that these will be useful to anyone who would like to find more information our about earthquakes. We reenacted what we would do if we were to experience an earthquake. As part of our science, we have investigated the impact of different substances on the enamel of our teeth. We used eggs to help us investigate this. During RE, we explored the story of Joseph and reflected on the importance of reconciliation.
Year 5:
This week we continued using our class text, 'Holes'. We have planned and written a narrative piece of writing based on a part of the book. In Maths, we have revisited column addition and column subtraction. We have applied this knowledge to solve multi-step word problems. In RE, we have been discussing our talents and why it is important to share our talents. In Geography, we have researched the Mayan Civilisation and how this has impacted Mexico today. In Art, we have begun to create our own Mexican designs and investigate different brush strokes with oil paints. In PE, we have continued to develop our football skills and have begun our line dancing lessons.
In Spanish, we have recapped on items we have in the classroom and we have learnt to say what is in our pencil cases.
Year 6:
This week we have been reading 'Journey' and have looked at planning to write our own version of the story. In reading lessons, we are continuing to read 'Brightstorm' and have looked in more detail at some of the characters. In Maths, we have been looking at Prime numbers, Multiples and Fractions. In PE, we have been improving our Hockey and Netball skills - we also had a look at how to play in the new Sand Pit. In Music, we continued to practise using the glockenspiels and sang some new songs. In RE, we looked at the 10 Commandments. In Science, we examined the lungs and in Geography, we looked at the Great Wall of China.
