We would love to share with you what has been happening in school this week. Please read below to find out what each year group has been learning .....
Reception:
In Maths this week, Reception have been learning all about patterns! We have been continuing repeated patterns and also spotting mistakes! We have been using lots of different materials to do this. In English, we have read 'Owl Babies' and used our Talk for Writing skills to retell the story and draw a story map. In RE, we have been thinking about talents which have been given to us by God and how we can share these with others.
Year 1:
This week we wrote our very first Hot Task in English. We have been learning about Beegu, an alien, who crash-landed from space. We turned ourselves into the character and wrote a diary entry about our time on earth. We rehearsed the performance of retelling the story using our story map. On Thursday, some of us read in Mass. We were very brave and read beautifully in front of the whole school.
Year 2:
What a great week we've had in Year 2! We have continued our work in English based around the book 'Lost and Found' and have written letters as the boy from the story. We have also thought about the different animals that live in the Arctic and Antarctic regions and have even tried to draw them in the style of Maria Sybilla Merian.
Year 3:
We thoroughly enjoyed our First Holy Communion meeting in church on Tuesday evening. The children spoke about our RE topic on Belonging, and we discussed what is expected of them with regard to behaviour, being respectful in church and making the right choices as they start their journey with God towards the big event on June 10th. In Reading, we started a new book 'The Dark', which the children have really enjoyed whilst, in English, we have been writing our own version of 'Little Red Riding Hood' with a twist!
Year 4:
This week, we have been learning how to write a successful character description in English, using expanded noun phrases. In Maths, we have been practising column addition and, in RE, we have enjoyed looking at the 5 different types of prayer, choosing the type which means the most to us and writing our own prayer based on this.
Year 5:
This week we have been studying problem-solving involving addition and subtraction. In English, we have been building up our toolkit, learning about how to use colons in a list and parenthesis. We will use these in our factual report next week. In Science, we have been looking at the different stages of human development. In RE, we explored the miracles of Jesus. Monday is school photo day, so Year 5 pupils should come dressed in their uniform, bringing their PE kit in a bag, so they can get changed before PE.
Year 6:
This week in English, we have started to plan our story based on the book 'Journey'. In Maths, we have looked at multiplication and division methods. In Reading, we have continued to read 'Brightstorm'. Netball and Hockey skills are being developed in PE. In RE, we have looked at the 10 Commandments. In Science, we have investigated what happens to our heart rate when we exercise. In Art, we researched Yayoi Kusama and looked at some of her patterns. In Geography, we studied The Colloseum. We have also been using the new Chromebooks to help with our learning.
