We would love to share with you what has been happening in school this week. Please read below to find out what each year group has been learning .....
Reception:
This week we have been reading the story ‘Stuck’ and made a story map to help us to retell the story with actions. We then imagined we had got our kite stuck in the tree and thought about the different things we could throw in to help get the kite down. We used our super phonics knowledge to help us write some words. In Maths, we have been looking at the numbers 1, 2 and 3 and talked about the different ways we can represent that number.
Year 1:
In Year 1, we have had such a fun week doing DT project week. We have learnt about Rosa Parks and thought of the design brief, carefully thinking about the purpose, product, and user. We’ve used junk modelling material to create our bus and looked at joining techniques to help build our structure.
Year 2:
We may be nearly at the end of term, but we are still busy in Year 2! This week is our D&T week and, as part of Black History Month, we are honouring Mary Seacole and building hospitals that would survive the Crimean War. The children are very excited about their projects and have been designing and making all week. Thank you to all who helped us achieve this by donating your old cardboard and food containers!
We wish you a lovely half-term break!
Year 3:
This week in year 3 we have combined celebrating Black History Month with our DT project. We learnt all about the life of Katherine Johnson, an American mathematician whose calculations of orbital mechanics as a NASA employee were critical to the success of the first and subsequent U.S. crewed space flights. The children then designed and built a space rocket capable of flying to the moon. They thought about different methods of strengthening their rocket, such as folding, ribbing, tubing and corrugating. The final products were excellent, and Katherine would have been very proud!
Year 4:
Year 4 have worked extremely hard this week during our assessments. We are extremely proud of each one of them for being so dedicated to their work. In RE, we have learned a valuable lesson from our work on the story of Mary and Martha. We have thoroughly enjoyed our design and technology work this week we have designed and created an earthquake-proof house. We have learned a range of attachment techniques, such as flange and L brace, which we used in our final design. In English, we have boxed up our writing in preparation for our hot task when we return after half-term.
Year 5:
We have been working hard to complete our assessments. In Maths, we have revised arithmetic techniques, learnt how to measure angles and explored multiples and common multiples. In English, we learnt about different types of tense, and we did some research which supported our creative writing and idea creation. In Reading, we studied character inference and worked hard to create clear points backed up with evidence. It has been DT week and we have had so much fun constructing our bridges for Marcus Rashford. Mr Quinn and Mr Symons have been very impressed with the budding engineers we have across the year group. We measured with precision, we cut with accuracy, we recorded with detail, we evaluated and problem solved with gusto, and we worked in teams with grace and patience. The bridges we created all passed the weight and strength test and looked awesome!
Year 6:
We have had teachers from other schools visit us for our RE lesson this week. They were impressed with the childrens' learning behaviour and attitude. Well done Year 6! We have also been using division methods in Maths and writing our narrative stories in English. In PE, we have had our last Netball and Hockey lessons. In DT, we have thoroughly enjoyed researching, designing, and making our playgrounds for Mae Jemison.
