Nursery:
A big, big thank you to all the parents and carers for attending the Christmas craft workshop. The children really enjoyed the morning and the activities, and we hope you did too! The team would like to wish you all a happy and holy Christmas.
Reception:
This week Reception have been getting into the Christmas spirit! We have enjoyed making our Christmas cards, Advent wreaths and Christmas decorations for the classroom. On Thursday, the children had a very special visit from Santa himself, who was very impressed with how well the children sat and listened to the story. We can't wait to see you all in January and hear all about your wonderful Christmas holiday.
Year 1:
We have been thinking about the different ways we prepare during Advent in church, school and at home. We spoke about the third Advent candle, Joy, and what the colour represents. Dan and Emily helped us to pray and gather our thoughts. We have had a brilliant Autumn term and have learnt lots.
Year 2:
This week we have been getting into the festive spirit! We have designed and created our own Christmas biscuits. We thought carefully about our audience and purpose when designing our biscuits. We loved rolling, cutting and decorating them, it was lots of fun! We also did some Christmas-themed problem solving in Maths and English. We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas break!
Year 3:
This week we have been working on our latest DT project; designing, baking and decorating a gingerbread house. We had a lot of fun investigating different types of biscuits and working out the best ingredient to use as 'glue' to keep the walls together. We also had a great time singing carols by the library on Monday and loved how many parents came to watch us. Finally, we have been learning about the classic story of 'A Christmas Carol' and have written our own version of this. We hope you all have a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Year 4:
What a fun week we have had in year 4! On Monday, we rewrote the story of the Christmas Truce, using all the things we have learnt in English so far in this year. We have really enjoyed designing and making our Christmas stockings for DT week and thinking about which stitch would be the best to use. On Thursday, we had a special, exciting visit from Santa, and on Friday we really enjoyed our Christmas party to finish off the term. Miss Smith, Mrs Smith and Miss Illsley hope you all have a safe, fantastic break, and we look forward to seeing everybody back in January.
Year 5:
This week, Year 5 have continued to learn how to add and subtract mixed numbers. In RE, we have been studying John the Baptist and the important work he did in preparing the way for Jesus. It has been DT week and we have had excellent fun cake tasting, designing and making Christmas-themed cupcakes. We also learnt about healthy, balanced diets. In Art, we have made Christmas cards and designed Christmas bauble decorations. In Music and Drama, we continued to prepare for our Carol Service and delivered brilliant performances on Wednesday night.
Year 6:
This week we have started our DT project - Making a Christmas Toy. We have been writing our own story based on The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. We have been practising for our Carol Concert, and we have produced a piece of artwork based on our Reading topic, 'The Raven'.
