Nursery:
This week, the children have been listening to the story of 'Stick Man'. Our activities have included ordering Stick Man’s family by size, making a stick man out of cardboard tubes and focusing on our pencil control with mark-making activities.
In Maths, the children have been learning about patterns, making patterns with objects, natural materials, body percussion and printing.
We also had the opportunity to go out in the snow, making tracks and looking for patterns in the environment.
Reception:
This week, Reception have started our superhero topic and were super impressed with the wonderful masks the children made at home. Thank you for supporting your child in creating such imaginative designs! We know that superheroes help people, so we have spent the week thinking about what superhero powers we have that allow us to help others. In Maths, we have been using our number facts to solve problems.
Year 1:
In Year 1 we have been reading the book 'Wisp - A Story of Hope' and we have been thinking about how to describe a setting from the story. We have been learning how to compare two different characters in English and in Maths. We have been using number lines to help find and order numbers. In Science, we have been continuing our learning with the topic of 'Materials' and have been differentiating between materials and objects.
Year 2:
This week, we have been continuing our English work on 'Meerkat Mail', building up to our Hot Task on Friday to write a postcard as Sunny the meerkat. We have started multiplication and division in maths which has challenged our brains a little!. In RE, we looked at Mary and Joseph's journey to Egypt and discussed how refugees still have to leave their countries to be safe - this linked to our Big Question, 'Is It Fair?' We have also started looking at Jesus' miracles, in particular the healing of the centurion's servant which we really enjoyed. We have also started to use the Chromebooks in Computing, which was so exciting! We have also, of course enjoyed the snowy days we have had this week!
Year 3:
This week in Year 3 we have rounded up our topic on Ella Fitzgerald and the Civil Rights Movement by recording a podcast that the children have written. We have also completed our Topic on the 'History of Artists' by studying the art of Banksy and the music of Stormzy. In Maths, we have continued to work hard on our times tables skills, particularly focussing on the 2s, 4s and 8s. Keep going with this at home. In RE, we are focussing on Caritas in Action and this week have talked about stewardship and looking after God's creation.
Year 4:
This week, we have been writing our own chapter of Roald Dahl's 'The Twits'. We used freeze frames to think of tricks that Mr Twit could play on Mrs Twit. In Science, we had fun experimenting with circuits to investigate what a complete and incomplete circuit looks like. In RE, we have been looking at different pieces of art which represent the Baptism of the Lord. In Geography, we have really enjoyed continuing to learn about Greece, and pretended we had been on an aeroplane to Greece, then writing a postcard home to tell our family and friends all about the physical geographical features that we had seen.
Year 5:
This week, we have been studying long multiplication in Maths. In Reading, we have been summarising and exploring what concise languages means. In English, we have written a character description with an emphasis on how a character's mood changes throughout a story. In Science, we have studied the solar system and the relative size and location of each planet. In RE, we looked at the Baptism of Jesus and how it marked the beginning of his ministry. In Art, we began drawing the Empire State Building in a style inspired by Stephen Wiltshire.
Year 6:
In Reading, we are continuing to read 'Tales of Terror'. In English, we have written persuasive letters about sustainability. In Maths, we are looking at Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. In RE, we are looking at Baptism and Confirmation. In PE, we have practised vaulting and balancing. In Handball, we practised screening and in Spanish, we looked at more places in towns.
