What we have been learning this week.....
Nursery:
This week's nursery rhyme is 'Five Currant Buns in a Baker's Shop'. The children have enjoyed role playing this rhyme, taking turns to be the baker.
In Maths, we have started our new topic 'Matching', where the children have had to match buttons, wellies and build matching towers. This will continue next week.
Thank you very much to all the parents that helped to complete their child's 'All about Me' booklet and for sending in the family photos.
They have really enjoyed talking about their family and who loves and cares for them as part of our RE topic.
Reception:
Reception have been impressing us with their phonic skills by writing down the sounds they can hear in words! The children have been trying really hard with their letter formation and have been listening closely as we 'Fred talk' words together. In Maths, we have been helping the counting puppets to count objects carefully and say the total. In RE, we have enjoyed painting some of the things that God has created.
Year 1:
We have had another great week in Year 1. We completed our Hot Task for our English unit. We worked really hard to remember what makes a great sentence. We made sure we had capital letters, finger spaces and full stops and challenged ourselves to include adjectives! We also spent time thinking about what is 1 more than and 1 less than a given number up to 10. In RE this week we had so much fun thinking about celebrations that we have as a family. We explored lots of artefacts associated with the celebration and had a great discussion about spending time together as part of our individual families and together as God's family.
Year 2:
This week we moved onto a new book in English and wrote about our favourite animals. In Maths, we have been estimating and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. For Science, we have been exploring the differences between amphibians and reptiles. Geography saw us thinking about how life in the Arctic Circle compares to our lives in the UK.
Next week we will be moving onto addition and subtraction in Maths and learning about information texts in English.
Year 3:
This week we have started our new topic of addition and subtraction in Maths. We have also been using maths journaling to recap our work on place value. In English, we have started to write our hot task. We are writing a 3-paragraph narrative based on the book 'Hike', where we go on an adventure and a problem occurs. In Reading, we have started our new book called 'Black Dog', we are really enjoying the mystery and suspense of this so far. In Geography, we are continuing our topic of India, looking at Shanty Towns and Skyscrapers.
Year 4:
We absolutely loved sharing our OPAL sessions with some of the parents this week. If you joined us, we do hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. In Maths, we have been rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. This week, we have had a go at maths journaling for the first time. In Science, we have looked at our digestive system. Next week, we are going to be conducting an experiment in Science and would be grateful if you could send in some toilet and kitchen roll tubes. We have completed our boxing it up in English in preparation for our hot task next week. We are focusing on setting description so it would be helpful for us to do some research on our chosen location. Our current RE topic is 'Jesus Teaches us how to Pray'. We have enjoyed learning about the synagogue this week. In Spanish, we have learned 10 animals and we can say them in a sentence. Thank you for joining us at our curriculum meeting this week.
Year 5:
This week we have begun to write their own curse story, based on the one from our class text, 'Holes'. We are beginning to use relative clauses in our writing and inverted commas correctly. In Maths, we have been solving multi-step addition and subtraction word problems. In RE, we have learnt about the Beatitudes and how they provide a guide for living as a disciple of Christ. In Geography, we have learnt about the Mayan Civilisation and created an information leaflet. In Science, we have learnt about how the body changes during old age and, in PE, we have started our line dancing genre of dance and continued learning new skills in Gaelic Football.

This week we have been editing our Hot Task writing. In Reading, we have encountered the nasty Eudora Vane in Brightstorm. In Geography, we looked at The Great Wall of China. In Science, we looked at the composition of blood and, in Maths, we looked at calculation strategies. In RE, we have looked at Moses and considered the importance of the 10 Commandments.
