We would love to share with you what has been happening in school this week. Please read below to find out what each year group has been learning .....
Year 1:
We have been designing and making a shoebox sewer after reading 'The Street Beneath My Feet'. We have learnt all about what happens to our waste and where it all goes. In RE, we wrote prayers to God, thanking him for all the things he created. We listened to the Creation story and are beginning to learn what God created each day.
Year 2:
This week we have been continuing our work on 'The Street Beneath My Feet' book. We have enjoyed seeing our stalactites growing and have done some great writing about an imaginary journey on an underground train. We really enjoyed making sedimentary rocks out of marshmallow, biscuits and skittles. We also had a chance to go in the swimming pool today, it was so much fun!
Year 3:
This week we have enjoyed rehearsing a rock song inspired by our core text 'The Street Beneath Our Feet'. In Maths, we have been partitioning numbers and in reading we have begun studying a beautiful picture book called 'If all the world were' by children's Laureate Joseph Coelho. We have also begun some exciting new topics in PE: gymnastics and football. It was an honour for us to prepare and lead the school in our celebration of Mass this week - the children who contributed individually made us all proud.
Year 4:
This week we continued looking at the book 'The Street Beneath My Feet' by carrying out a science experiment on our papier mache volcanos from last week to replicate a volcano erupting. Following this, we have also created a piece of volcano art based on the artist Nick Rowland. We enjoyed starting our geography topic on earthquakes and learnt what it would be like to experience an earthquake, writing a diary entry based on this knowledge.
Year 5:
We have continued to investigate place value up to a million. We used physical resources and drew all over the tables when representing numbers in different ways! In English, we learned how to write inside/outside sentences which explore how characters sometimes cover up their true emotions. In Reading, we read and discussed the themes covered in the first few chapters of our book - 'Who Let the God's Out'. In Spanish, we learnt the names of classroom items. In Science, we learned how fossils are made and then created some beautiful information reports to demonstrate our understanding. We then made our very own fossils using clay and plaster of paris. In RE, we looked at Creation stories from other cultures.
Year 6:
Year 6 continued swimming and also started to play Netball and Hockey in PE. In Maths, we have started Place Value work. In Reading, we have looked at what inference means and started our new book, 'Brightstorm'. We have started our RE topic thinking about the books of the Bible. We have also been planting seeds, looking for newts and practising our handwriting.
