We would love to share with you what has been happening in school this week. Please read below to find out what each year group has been learning .....
Reception:
This week we have been learning all about how Diwali is celebrated! We have been very creative, making our own diya lamps and rangoli patterns. We have had lots of fun, especially learning our Diwali dance. In Maths, we have been using our subitising skills to solve problems with numbers up to 3! In RE, we have been thinking about all the people that care for us at school and at home and saying a prayer to say thank you for their love and care.
Year 1:
This week Year 1 have been writing their Hot Task, which was a setting description based on the book 'The Robot and the Bluebird.' They have taken extra care to make sure they're ticking everything from their toolkit, including adjectives to make their sentences interesting.
In RE, we have been looking at different celebrations and whether we celebrate them at home, school or in church.
Year 2:
We have hit the ground running in Year 2 this half-term! It was lovely to see all the children back and refreshed. We have been working hard in our Maths lessons on addition and subtraction, as well as starting our brand new, exciting topic - The Great Fire of London. This links to our English lessons, where we will be writing a diary entry from the Great Fire itself.
Year 3:
This week we have been beginning our work on addition in Maths. It's great to see the children apply their knowledge of place value whilst solving tricky addition problems. In Art, we have been creating our own paint prints using natural resources, and we completed our Geography unit on India by looking at whether there are still people living in shanty towns across India today.
Year 4:
This week, in RE, we have been looking at the meanings of the "Our Father" and what The Gloria tells us about God the Father. In Maths, we have been learning how to do column subtraction. For our hot task in English, we wrote our own story about an earthquake, thinking about fronted adverbials, character descriptions and conjunctions. We really enjoyed starting our first history topic: WWI.
Year 5:
This week we have been studying factors, multiples and prime numbers in Mathematics. We have been exploring patterns and creating rules to help us understand what each number will be. In English, we have written a factual report about a fictional creature from our book - 'Holes'. Next week, we will begin our new book - 'When the Sky Falls' by Phil Earle, which links with our History topic - World War II. In History, we looked at the origin of WW2 and what factors made the war begin in September 1939. In Reading, we have written predictions about our new book - 'The Nowhere Emporium'. In DT, we evaluated or bridges which we constructed before half-term. In Science, we have been learning about puberty and the changes which occur during this period. In RE, we have learnt about how Jesus' miracles changed people's lives forever and how they still change our lives today. We also learnt about the Seven Sacraments and why they are categorised as Sacraments of Initiation, Healing or the Service of Communion.
Year 6:
This week we have been practising long division written methods in Maths. In Reading, we have continued with 'Bright storm'. In English, we are starting a poetry unit and looking at a story about the 'Wind rush' written by Benjamin Zephaniah. In Science and Geography, we have completed our end of unit quizzes and, in Art, we have investigated contrasting and complimenting colours. In RE, we have looked at the job of the disciples. In Spanish, we practised some vocabulary associated with family members and numbers and, in PE, we started to develop our football skills.
